on a lighter note
my next trip to LOS will be in October (far too long to wait), I will fly down to Phuket and work my way up to HH over the course of 2 weeks, suggestions of a route using the bus and places to stop on the way would be welcomed, I have been to Phuket once before and HH several times, but no places in between, before anyone starts, I know Phuket is an island and buses cant swim.
But it is joined with a perfectly good road. I'd suggest before coming north to spend a couple of days in Krabi. Au Nang is beautiful and many trips available to the islands.
Taking the main (only) road north, you could detour to Koh Samui, Koh Tau (very beautiful island). You could even get a catamaran there to complete your journey.
Happy Holidays.

Khao Sok and particularly a boat trip to Rachaprapha dam is worth doing. A bit like China´s Guilin.

Interesting bit of info on Thai bridge building. Saw a program on Discovery about the new suspension bridge in Bangers, this per linnear meter was the fastest constructed bridge of this type in the world.
Shame they could not complete the ring road as quickly then we could all get to the airport more quickly.
Slightly ammussing though the thought of catching a boat from the mainland to Phuket.

This is not necessarily a good thing, depending upon who the engineering and construction companies were. The elevated tollway from Bang Na to Chonburi already has cracks in the vertical support columns and rebar showing through. It's about 5 years old. News said inspections concluded "no problem, normal.."gooze wrote:Interesting bit of info on Thai bridge building. You can read more about the mega-bridge here.
