158 countries still require a covid test, more often than not an antigen test or 'recovery certificate'.

The insurance thing is all part of an elaborate scam, the junta-approved hotels and hospitals are making a mint out of it so it's unlikely to be dropped. What may happen is that insurance will get stupidly expensive because the companies will not want to insure people going to Thailand knowing that they're going to get scammed. Dropping the SHA hotel quarantine bullshit should eliminate the insurance scamming (until they think of something else).

Well I’m sure it will eventually get scraped, but agree that it will probably be a lot longer than is really necessary and in the meantime, the scammers will continue to pick the flesh from the bones!!

All these You Tuber Thai experts are stating categorically that ALL restrictions will be lifted (pending Songkran figures) on 1st June. I suspect that the spunkers in charge will use Songkran as an excuse to further line their already bursting coffers.

I talk to a lot of people when I am here in the states helping my son and most are well off and, therefore, travelers. The vast majority, I'd say around 80%, all say they will still wait to travel. Mainly due to their belief that, yes many countries are opening and dropping restrictions, but who knows what can still happen.

Obviously I traveled, and there are some hassles, but I don't think they are going away soon.

My daughter will be on her way back to the US in a couple of days having had a full groveling apology from the CBP. She's armed with a mountain of paperwork showing how CBP got it so wrong. All just in case she gets reeled in again but even if she does I guess she'll find embarrassed officers letting her through with further apologies (maybe).

The next move is to try to get compensation from them. I don't expect that to succeed but worth a try.

Thailand needed national shame to reorganize airport mayhem
After a famous Thai YouTuber exposed to the world how lost tourists were at the airport upon their arrival in Thailand, causing national shame overnight, it took just a day for officials to address the issue.

Even worse, the officials claimed the photos of the crowded airport hallway were taken during rush hours, when most passengers were arriving.

More travelers entered the kingdom this month as the government removed the mandatory pre-arrival RT-PCR test certificate under the Test and Go scheme.

On Sunday, Atichan Cherngchavano, the owner of the YouTube channel Spin9 with over 631,000 subscribers, shared a post shedding light on how chaotic Suvarnabhumi Airport was while travelers were struggling to find their vans to their hotels to take their post-arrival RT-PCR test.

“No one was able to go anywhere; they were put together in long queues,” Atichan wrote. “Hotel staff screamed their hotels’ names until their voices cracked.”

Atichan said there was no directory guiding passengers, except for a pack of hotels’ logos on one counter.

“Everything is placed randomly and unalphabetically.”

Once the passengers found their hotel counter, they had to join a long queue since there was only one staff handling bookings for many hotels, he added.

His post has gone viral, with over 37,000 retweets and 6,600 shares across Facebook. The embarrassment on the faces of those officials prompted them to release a statement to rescue their integrity a day later.

It proves the unflattering fact that those authorities are only willing to take action properly to facilitate their citizens and guests when the problems cause them embarrassment to some extent.

Given how the government is treating foreign visitors who contributed substantially to the country’s economy prior to the pandemic, Thailand’s tourism prosperity may not be on the horizon anytime soon.

QR code to find hotel desk at Suvarnabhumi
Suvarnabhumi airport is advising tourists to download a new QR code rolled out on Wednesday to quickly direct them to a counter for the hotel where they made a reservation.

The main airport serving Bangkok introduced the new QR code after reports of chaos in the arrival hall over the weekend, with frustrated travellers searching vainly for their hotel's name after leaving the luggage pickup area.

Suvarnabhumi had only eight counters representing at least 400 hotels at the time. The airport has added nine more desks to ease the congestion.

Airport general manager Kittipong Kittikachorn said the QR code would inform the user exactly which counter to go to.

The airport worked with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, hotel operators and travel agents to make the QR code.

I thought about it originally, and I'm thinking about it again now. Simply scanning a QR Code is going to achieve Jack Shit. There has to be more to it i.e. the QR will not know who is scanning, so won't be able to retrieve specific data. There will need to be an element of input by the scanner. Dare I suggest, "Tail Wagging The Dog?"
