Wedding Day Blues

Post by gooze »

Sorry could not resist this storry from todays Bangkok Post.

Samut Prakan _ A wedding banquet ended in chaos when it was raided by police _ prompting the groom, a Burmese illegal migrant worker, to cut short the party and jump into a canal to escape their clutches. Police went to the house in tambon Laem Fah Pah, Phra Samut Chedi district, after being told that a wedding party there was attended by mostly unregistered Burmese migrant workers.

The two-storey house was decorated with balloons and a lavish banquet was spread out on tables. Guests were munching on pre-dinner snacks and some were dancing when the police arrived.

Chaos erupted as police asked to see the migrant labour registration cards. Guests leaped from their seats and tried to get away, toppling tables to obstruct police.

Police also went after the groom. He jumped into Sanpa Samit canal, behind the house, and was still at large last night. It was not clear what happened to the bride.

Members of the band hired to play at the party were also migrant workers. They abandoned their instruments and also plunged into the canal.

Police arrested 48 of the guests who did not possess migrant labour cards, 38 of them men. Some hid in the large water storage jars and had to be pulled out

Anybody got a better wedding day story from LOS?.

I think it's really sad. What sort of a person informs on a wedding party? :(

There's still wild crocodiles in those canals, as well as those that escape "crocodile world" there every year when the rains come and flood the enclosures. Perhaps that's what happened to the bride? Was she weaing a watch? Let's listen for the tick, tick, tick... Pete
