Do you think walking around Hua Hin dressed only in beachwear ie bikini tops is acceptable?

Add in copious amounts of booze, cultural ignorance, parochial mindsets, grade-school equivalent education and way too much telly at home and here they are.
Its a pity even the proles can now afford air tickets to virtually anywhere.
Johnnyk,

I assume that you were having an off day? That's got to be the most "aggressive" post I've ever seen you make?

Talk about generalising!

I'm a tourist and apart from my one time in the Hilton (as is), I haven't paid through my nose.

A lot of locals appear to knock back copious amounts of booze, not just tourists?

Culteral ignorance, well, we're not all perfect. I once went on club 18-30 (or so I am told :)! I grew up?

How many tourists are going to "get" Thai culture, even the basics on one trip? How many get it visiting the UK on one trip?

Parochial? Are you talking about tourists, Thais ot expats?

Grade school education? Well, I've no idea what that means? I was not encouraged to stay on at school with 7 `O's (Economics & Art A's, the rest B's - English, history, geography, sociology & one I've forgotten). I then did a few others and have lots of things since.

Telly? I confess I watch sport, otherwise you'd likely find me in an art gallery.

Been there many times and maybe nearly there? Maybe not Hua Hin though, that should please you - too many plebs!

And as being able to afford the flights? Well maybe there is a case for filtering who can or cannot get a passport? But we live in a democracy, well sort off, and its just not acceptable to keep the masses down any more. Pity really (as long as it's not me affected).

Sorry.

caller, you seem to have taken it personally...don't know why.
it was another post that mentioned paying through the nose, perhaps i should have added quote marks to signify that i was being facetious.
i doubt very much that the types we have been talking about in this thread come to HHAD or even know about it.
i'm talking about a species we've all seen from the med to sea to the west indies to mexico who seem to think the price of their ticket and their anonymity allows disrespect and offensive behaviour.
i confess that i too watch telly - a bit of sports and documentaries.
anyway, HH thankfully is not pattaya or certain greek and spanish isles.

I just want to throw this out there as a dare!

I think some young people, college students perhaps should go streaking through say the nitelife area as a prank.

I remember when I was in college we ran naked through a condo drinking party, out to the complex pool and then up to the corner 7-11 only to do jumping jacks in the parking lot.

I think this sort of thing would be hilarious in Hua Hin.

Think of it as cultural convergence!

Well, I reckon that if those "cheeky little monkeys" did so and were caught, they could probably look forward to some quality time in the "monkey house".

Yes but that's part of the thrill of it, that you might get caught. It makes you run faster!

I realise ignorance is no excuse, but I do not think that 99% of the people you are referring to are doing anything in their eyes to offend locals or expats. I believe they are on holiday, making the most of their time in the sun to get a tan, or possibly in the case of the men keeping cool without their shirts.

Maybe some think they look attractive, maybe they are not that self conscious (or narcissistic), maybe some of the men think they look hard?
A very large percentage of people go on holiday and have no idea about the culture or ways of the place they are visiting. they know the sun is hot , the food and beer are good and cheap, the beach looks good, and if you are coming to Thailand the ladies are friendly. what more do they need to know for a good time?

Pete is correct, in the country and in paintings the Thais, male and female, wear no tops. When did it change ? are they following our examples of prudish behavior?

sorry if this offends anyone, just my opinions. :thumb:

It is also their culture to have many wives.

You would need as a man to be well endowed, have ascribed status, money, good looks, skill with the ladies etc.

I know their monarchy changed that rule some time back but old ways die hard!

Johnny the only thing we will choke on is large copious amounts of champagne being downed after taking the league from Manure, Beating Manure in the FA Cup and then if they qualify (if being the word) beating the ass of of Manure in the Champions League Final.

johnnyk,
Can you please restrict your use of swear words? This is a public forum which means children can view it, and others may be offended. Also can you keep discussions about football to the relevant sections? :thumb:
Now, :offtopic:

NOT ENOUGH OF IT IN MY OPPINION>

ONLY JOKING.

It is an education problem particularly with the tourists as other posts have said maybe the hotels and guest houses could do more to educate the slightly un-educated.
