Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
That is the worry. Lots of people suffer only mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, especially children. Recent studies indicate that the virus, for some reason or other, that although infecting them, children are spared the symptoms. That makes them carriers of the worst order.
Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
More and more places are checking temperatures now. Does anybody know what happens if somebody exceeds the magic number (anybody know what that number is?)? Do they simply refuse entry? I've been tested once so far, and was shown my reading. My son had been tested 3 times, etc., etc. If you exceed the magic number you'd be pretty stupid to ignore it, but do the testers have any authority to detain you/put you into isolation? I'd guess not. The testers I've seen have not been wearing any protective clothing.
I don't have a problem with being tested, but would like to know what happens if I fail.
Many testers are security guards. Security guards are security guards because they don't have a proper education. So what authority do they have if their untrained test on me is positive? I would like to think only advisory.

Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
At Makro this afternoon they said that 37.5C and over will be denied entry. No skill needed taking the temperature with a hand-held reader, they just have to aim the blue dot at the middle of your forehead until the result is displayed on the device.
Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
As for authority, they have the authority of the store you want to go into.
Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
If my temperature was, for example 38.5, I guess they'd tell me, but would it end there, or are the men in white suits going to descend upon me? Probably, that is what should happen at the moment i.e. denied entry only might see me jumping on the next packed green bus and nipping down the road to Villa Market instead, where as in reality I should be properly checked.
I think I'm asking if these preventative measures are proper, or are these establishments just playing to the crowd?
I am asking for a friend, who is not unwell, but considering not entering establishments where temperatures are being taken for fear of the unknown.

Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
I asked exactly the same thing yesterday. I know its not China here yet, but do they have they authority to bundle you into a van and cart you off to quarantine just because you have a slightly elevated temperature?

Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
I was in other stores today (G super on chomsin and old shopping mall) and they have no checks. Nowhere was very busy.
Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
I read elsewhere that Makro refuse entry until your temperature drops. I say this as these thermometer guns are quite unreliable, measuring surface temperature, not true temperature. At another Makro, they are told to sit in the shade for a little while, then tested again. One guy went to the bathroom and splashed his face with cold water. No problem. He was within the accepted level!!
These 'testers' are not qualified and holding these guns too close or too far away can give different results.

Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
If by "they" you mean Makro's security, then the answer is probably no. There are only two of them and they'll just politely say you can't go in. Forcing your way in would possibly mean the police being called. Just go somewhere else, or take some paracetamol and wait an hour.buksida wrote:I asked exactly the same thing yesterday. By "they" I meant any Thai in a uniform with a temp gun.

Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
Yeah, just cool down. If you really have a fever it's likely you have a much higher temperature and a splash of water is unlikely to help. Iced water maybe?HHTel wrote:I read elsewhere that Makro refuse entry until your temperature drops. Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
From what I've seen in HH today there's not much concern right now. Very few masks, probably because it's almost impossible to buy them.
Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
Has anyone entered at Suvarnabhumi over the last day or two? I have a flight next week and with all the conflicting information, I'm not sure whether to bother coming. I'm not bothered about the virus, just about being arbitrarily thrown into quarantine.
