I'm considering buying a car (been getting taxis for years)
In general how do used car prices compare to the UK?
let's take a 10k £ car in UK, what does that cost here?
I'm guessing fuel is cheap but what about running costs generally? Insurance? Maintenance
Thanks

Used car prices
Re: Used car prices
You can do a lot of comparisons on Google. You'll find that as a general yardstick, you can double the price of a used car in the UK. For example, a BMW 1 series 2013 is under 10,000 (under 400,000 baht) whereas in Thailand you will pay 800,000 +.
On the plus side, fuel, road tax, insurance are generally cheaper.

Re: Used car prices
Used cars do tend to hold their price here better than in the UK, however if you buy one of the locally assembled cars (most of Japanese origin but also Fords), it will be a lot less than a European import.

Thanks for all replies
Wow, double UK prices! Think I'll keep taking taxis especially as its for 6 months of year!
I once enquired about hiring a car and whilst I can't remember the figures I do recall falling off my chair!
Plus, for me, renting /buying would have to be so much cheaper than taxis to make me do it anyways! I think I spend about 9000 baht month on rides almost exclusively to golf.
I'm guessing car rental would be a lot more than that? (nothing fancy just a honda civic/Nissan almera type)
Cheers fellas
