Dental 2000

Post by svga »

i know this is an old forum but would like to relate my experiences of dental 2000, my lady, a Thai had tooth problems, made an appointment, took 2 weeks, dentist treated her very badly, and failed to correct problem, he was only interested in working on "ferrang" not thai teeth, now she is reticent about going to another dentist as she feels that they are all likely to be of the same standard. i had explained to them that she needed treatment for the pain and then a bit of cosmetic dentistry to repair a discoloured tooth, i failed to mention she was thai, first time ive heard of discrimination against nationals, thought it was only "ferrang" who get treat like s**t here

Dental 2000:Had teeth cleaned there in Feb and July. First time; an excellent DR with modern tools, nice & professional. Second time around, a young DR wih tools and methods from 2 centuries ago, painful and terrible experience.Don't know the name since I left in shock.

I have used Dental 2000 and yes it is a hit and miss affair . It seems to depend on who is sent from Bangkok any particular week.

I have used Hua Hin Dental clinic 1/5 Sra Song Road and found them excellent. Two lady dentists one who has a degree from a Thai Uni and also a degree from Uk . The clinic is new up to date and the service very good. It is on the other side of the road from All in Hua Hin and about 30m south. It Is open 10am to 8pm. Try it you will not be disappointed.

I know someone (Thai) who also used them for two fillings, a root canal, and teeth cleaning and said it was all painless and very good. I can't remember exactly how much it cost but a fraction of UK prices.

Thanks for your time on this one!
there are two kinds of implants available in Bkk one that costs around 150 Euros this is a standard implant. The other which is new ( sargon ) costs around 260Euros, and this baby can be done very quickly. It is like a butterfly clip implanted. I saw my dentist in BKK on a Tuesday and had the Sargon implanted the next day ! No trouble at all with it and it has been 8 months!

I have an appointment with Dental 2000 tomorrow afternoon for a fairly major filling replacement. I am also scared rigid of dentists, so this, for me, will be something of a war against terror! I did have my teeth cleaned by them when they were in their old place (closer to the town centre), and survived the process, but will keep you posted as soon as I can speak, or type again...

Have a nice day...

Update...

I fully appreciate that this is even more boring than 'stenders to most people, but it may help some.

Went to Dental 2000 yesterday, and was reasonably pleased. At leat there was somewhere to park my car!

The reception staff spoke a mild modicum of English, but quickly realised that my Thai was better than their English, which seemed to help. Having a 'farang' wife with me didn't do me any harm either.

The dentist (who spoke superb English) took one look at my teeth (eeuuch!), and promptly announced that I needed root canal treatement, which, to a card carrying coward like me, is a bit like a death sentence. He also said that his colleague was a 'specialist' in root canal stuff (whatever it means), so he wouldn't do anything today. I have an appointment for next Friday. I will try to keep you posted!

Overall impressions:

Staff - good and friendly, but English a bit of a problem, but, perhaps, not too much of one.

Dentist - seemed very professional, and had the guts to admit that his colleague was a 'specialist' in root canal treatment. So far, so good...

If you're interested, they are at the very end of Petkasem Road in 'real' Hua Hin. Coming out of Hua Hin, heading for Pranburi, take the U-turn under the bridge over the railway line, and they are on the left shortly after you have joined the main road. Tel no: 032 536957.

When I know more, you'll know more...

You're not wrong about the prices. I was a bit surprised. One root canal treatment, plus a pin, whatever that is (sounds painful to me...) and a crown - 15,000 Baht!

How does that sound to you experts?

Went there and met the root canal expert (Dr. Wijai). An extremely pleasant man who understood my phobia of dentists. I did question whether I needed root canal treatment, as the pain had now gone. He took me into a chamber for an X-ray. He then showed me said X-ray and explained the problem. He understood that I didn't want to (maybe unnecessarily) go for the expensive option, so he filled the offending area (two teeth). He did say that he couldn't guarantee the fillings, as he really felt that I needed root canal treatment, but he gave me the cheaper option. Hats off to him - he didn't try and push me down the expensive route.
Total cost for fillings and X-ray - 900 baht.
The fillings are still in place (a few days later), and I have no pain whatsoever.
I would highly recommend Dr. Wijai at Dental 2000

I realise that this may not be very helpful to those staying in HH for a short time, but I think it's worth a mention anyway:

The best dental treatment I've ever had in my life was at Khon Kaen University Hospital's Dental Clinic. Very professional and very cheap - the work is normally carried out by senior pre- and post-grad students supervised by a professor.
The care is meticulous and outstanding though this can also cause it to take longer than at your normal commercially oriented private dentist.

I've worked at various universities in Europe and have always found dental care at university teaching hospitals good - they're motivated by standards of perfection rather than profit.

I would think that similar institutions in Bangkok could also be receptive to farang patients.

Barry, was this in HH? If yes, would you have a contact no. or such?

I just want to get some information straight from the dental clinics. We go up and down to HH so I could always arrange it for the next trip or so.

Thanks for your feedback anyway!

Hi Sonmic

Not in Hua Hin, the university dental clinic I referred to specifically is in Khon Kaen.

The point I was making is that all the university teaching hospitals with dental clinics that I have known are delighted to have 'guinea pigs" to work on and under the best possible conditions (equipment, supervisory staff, etc.).

I can imagine that the university teaching hospitals elsewhere in Thailand (mainly in Bangkok) would offer the same service.
