What kind of dress exspected for dinner

What kind of dress is expected for dinner at let´s say Sofitel ?

Wife have lots of dresses, and i have whatever needed compared to that - but would like some advice beforehand.

How about restaurants in town ?

Thanks for the reply - but can you be more specific, please ?

What is casual in these parts - and specificly at the Sofitel ? Are we talking shorts and T-shirt or - at the other end of the scale - a suit ?

I may ask silly - but we are new to this part of the world, so wanna learn.

At the Sofitel, a man would be fine in shirt & trousers for the evening, but could also wear a suit if he wished and would not look too out of place. A lady a top & skirt or trousers or a dress. During the day, t-shirt & shorts are pretty much fine everywhere. In the evening, you can be as casual as you like in most places, but to fit in anywhere, I'd suggest a polo shirt & trousers for you & a top & skirt or sundress for your wife. In that attire you could literally go anywhere in HH in the evening. HH is not a formal place, so I wouldn't bring anything too formal, I don't think you'd need a tuxedo (or even a suit, really) but some trousers & shirts or polo shirts for the evening & t-shirts & shorts for the day will be fine. For your wife, t-shirts & shorts for day, nice tops & skirts/trousers or sundresses for evening should cover most events & places.

Look at the Thaï and do the same : light skirts & trousers everywhere and everytime. Respect you show them you'll get it back too.

Whilst I agree with you in concept Jimiherf (and 100% agree if people are visiting temples etc), I think you're being a little OTT. I wasn't suggesting hotpants & bikini tops! Look around you during the day (in any area - the centre of HH or residential areas) and you'll see about 50% of Thais in t-shirts & shorts. Certainly in my area & I'm one of only 2 farang that live around here, so they're not influenced by us!

At pictures Sofitel looks very elegant - so just wanted to know what to pack or not.

I have mailed the Hotel about if there is aircondition in the restaurants - wife wants to know (she is poikilothermic

),
because if used to smart you may catch a cold in within 10 min.
