English League 2 - Season 2015-16

Post by Zidane »

Well, its 2015/16 really but what a choker for Carlisle fans...... :cuss:

Fixture release day: 779 miles to Plymouth on a Tuesday night?
By Saj Chowdhury BBC Sport

Supporters faced with an 779-mile round trip on a Tuesday night
Fingers of blame pointed to the 2015-16 English football fixtures lists, which were published on Wednesday.
It was the football equivalent of waiting for Santa at midnight, as fans up and down the country switched on their devices for the big launch at 09:00 BST.
#FixtureReleaseDay was the most widely tweeted hashtag for this momentous event.
•Between 08:00 BST and 10:00 BST 16,888 tweets were posted using it
•The hashtag peaked between 09:00 and 09:01 when the Premier League posted an image with its opening round of fixtures.
Among the serious ruminations on social media over the lists, there were moments of mirth:

Spare a thought for Carlisle
Carlisle are the most northerly team in the Football League, and are in a League Two featuring southern sides Exeter, Portsmouth, Yeovil and Plymouth.

They feared the worst and...

"Fancy a long one? Thats what we've got on Tuesday 18th August.....779 miles out and back to Plymouth.....wow !

The Pilgrims responded, via their account. At least, it will be light when you get back Carlisle fans - at 5am. :naughty:

My heart bleeds :D

I've suffered trips to Carlisle, Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington, etc, etc and survived.

I even survived Hua Hin's trip to Udon Thani last season, and I'm still here.

Well, here we go, yet another season of hope, anticipation and probably disappointment beckons. How will the Green Army fare this season?

I must admit, something has happened that I would never have believed would ever happen. I've taken my eye off the Green Army somewhat, and my main focus has become Hua Hin City. I've spent many years living in football hot spots such as the NE of England and the Northern realms of the West Country, yet my dedication has never wavered. However, just over 3 years in Hua Hin has seen my allegiance waiver somewhat.

However, I have a green heart, and will do my best to retain a very keen watching brief, although I know that I will never grace the terraces of Home Park again.

So, it's a trip to AFC Wimbledon this afternoon. In Plymouth terms, London games are almost local derbies, and I would expect a good following making their way up the M4.

We have a decent base team, but I still expect we'll have to wait 8 weeks until we know the team that will take us up to the mid way point. Players we take on loan, will be holding back in the hope of getting a permanent team. Then at the half way point, it'll be all change with a different set of loanees coming in. However, success will depend on the quality of our base team. Personally, I don't think I've seen enough movement in the transfer market to see us as serious challengers again - I hope I'm wrong.

How do you feel about Plymouths start to the season BB ?
They seem to be doing pretty well with 3 wins out of 4 in the league and their only loss being against unbeaten Portsmouth.
Also a narrow defeat in the League Cup against Gillingham who are top of League 1,so no real surprise there.
Early days yet but I would say its looking promising for you.

Yes, it's looking very good so far, and the goals are not just coming from a single source, which has led to a great season many times in the past. Also, many of the goals have been quality. Portsmouth could only score through a couple of gifted penalties.

Regarding the League Cup, I'm never sorry to be out of competitions we can't win.

I think it's an unwritten law

I was watching Crystal Palace vs Man City, while following the Plymouth match on BBC Sport. It got me thinking, and wondering what the Japanese scum did to us.

I was watching Bolasie and thinking if only we hadn't been forced to give players like that away for a song. Then I looked at what castoffs we got from Palace but didn't make the grade - now scoring a goal against us.

Anyway - onwards and upwards :D

It was an excellent 3 points, and the first chance I've had to watch them this season (what a disgusting away kit - they deserve to have a point deducted every time they wear it). Another day, and Notts County could easily have taken the honours, However, we weathered the storm 20 minutes either side of half time, and at the end of the day, it's who scores most goals that wins. I was quite impressed with the team last night.

There was actually, but nothing wrong with a little faffing about when you have other plays in your locker.

Did you get to watch it? Quite an eye opener after watching the Premiership week in, week out.
