260 dead in five days with Chiang Mai topping the list with 14 deaths
A total of 260 people were killed and 2,542 others injured in 2,446 road accidents throughout the country during the New Year’s festival from December 30 to January 3, according to Pol Lt-Gen Suveera Songmetta, the assistant national police chief
On January 3 alone which was the fifth day of the road safety campaign, there were 342 road accidents resulting to 33 dead and 379 injured.
Chiang Mai ranks the top of accident-prone provinces with the most accidents and fatalities recorded during the five-day period – 109 accidents, 14 deaths and 106 injured.
Five provinces are accident free. They are Phatthalung, Narathiwat, Sing Buri, Trang and Nakhon Phanom.
Pol Lt-Gen Suveera warned motorists to strictly follow traffic regulations as they were returning home today. He listed three accident-prone points in the southern Isan routes namely Chong Tago in Buriram, Kong Muang bend on Friendship highway in Nakhon Ratchasima and Pakthongchai-KabinBuri.
