Interesting about the airport bus. Two bar owners have told me independently that this is the quietest they have seen HH at this time of year for 8-10 years.

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

Nice place actually. Much more airy and roomy than the containers on the other side of the road.
Nice behind the scenes as well

Richard you old trout..I'm not grumpy..I just enjoy grumblin'
Out of all the 'services' I use whilst here in the LoS, the HH-airport bus is wonderful..
It does it's best to be on time, the price is right, they care about your safety, it's comfortable, & I'm happy when I see the bus full..kinda makes me feel the service will keep running...
...right Richard, must go..find another thread to biatch-about..
5-5-5!

I do wonder how they make a profit though. 20 passengers x THB 305 = THB 6,100. If they charge a few customers with extra baggage then they max at about THB 7,000 each way. WHEN IT IS FULL - which it ain't in low season.
I know that they are running around 6 each way each day, but when you think that they have to pay their salaries of drivers, conductors and booking clerks - and we haven't talked of the capital investment of the buses and their maintenance.
Anyways - long may they continue - I'm a confirmed fan.

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues
I've just booked online for Sunday morning and there were only a few seats left already so your chances of getting on without a booking must be pretty slight. I think the reason could be Russian tour groups as mentioned in a post above, I used the bus last month and I noticed several young Russian tour guides hanging around the bus waiting area at the airport with clipboards sending people on their way.pdm3547 wrote:Interesting about the airport bus. Soi 88 food plaza and the restaurants in 94 appear to be much busier the last 10 days or so. Certainly the snow-bird numbers are up, but I share the opinions above about 'tourists' as such, in that most of the traditional tourist market from Europe seems light to non-existent.

I'm starting to notice the influx of seasonal visitors driving motorcycles who don't have a clue what they are doing.
OK, I'm not a fan of regular motorcyclists (I doubt many truck drivers are), but you get to used to their crazy antics, and their outrageous manouvres are usually consistently predictable. Many of the December to February crowd are not at all predictable, and scare the hell out of me. They try to follow the example of the locals, but the locals have years of experience doing what they do, and are quite good at it.

Definitely a lot more 'exposed' heads on 94 - you can spot them a mile off. The BiB have actually been fairly successful at getting the longer term residents to use some kind of a helmet through their constant harassment efforts.
