U-Turn Slightly North of Market Village

Post by Big Boy »

It's no longer there. There's still a gap in the big plastic blocks, but there are also No U-Turn signs.

For me, if I'm going South, I used to drive down Soi 94 down to the U-Turn and then back up the opposite carriageway - not any more. In future I will have to cut up to Soi 102, and take the U-Turn just North of there. A pain, but doable.

What about people leaving Market village travelling South - what are they supposed to do?

I see it still in use as a U-turn. I think the disruption is just temporary until they finish the road. We'll see.

I know this is Thailand and many road signs are ignored, especially by Thais, and even more so by motor cyclists, but I don't ignore them. There's a guy living up the road got fined by the BIB for ignoring a similar sign. His argument that Thais do it gave the BIB a good laugh.

Temporary or not, I try not to fall into Thai driving bad habits.

I agree. I haven't used that uturn for a few days but I have had to stop driving south to let the queue of traffic make the turn. If there is indeed a 'no u-turn' sign then I will obey it as I obey all signs. Even when you obey a sign, you still have to be aware of local drivers who don't. i.e. going round a roundabout the correct way only to meet a Thai driver doing it in reverse!!

OK, thank you - I obviously missed that bit. Is that written in English and Thai, or just Thai please?

If you are already in the right hand lane preparing for the U -Turn you cannot see the sign until you are a couple of metres away because of a small tree obscuring your vision !

I've just come back from Market Village, and sure enough the 6 wheel vehicle sign is there (not obstructed whatsoever) for all to see. However, as jingjoe said, it is in Thai. OK, I know what it says now (Mrs BB confirmed the meaning), but if I came across the sign elsewhere, without an interpreter on board, I doubt that I would take the chance. Stupid thing is, I don't suppose it will deter Thai drivers of 6 wheeled vehicles at all.

Thanks again jingjoe :thumb:
