I agree with idea, but how long would it be before a smart-arse, no-win no-fee lawyer launched a case in the European Court of Human Rights saying "citizens of Europe" could not be barred from playing.zeitgeist wrote:Agree, but I would go even further by saying the 'non foreign' contingent should only be players eligible to play for the England national team and all players in the squad must be 22 and younger.

Because our famous English etiquette and politically correct obsession has allowed us to be used and abused.the quotas are curently working in Spain , Italy and Germany why not in England
How many foreign players are playing in the countries that you named's youth leagues blue 05? Would be interested to know. I wouldn't be surprised if it was none. I really can't see Germany improving young English talent for us in their youth league.
Forgive me if I misread your post... a wee tipsy today.

Re: Premier League 2013-2014
I realise Mourinho likes to stir the shit, but this is beyond ridiculous:

It's not a wind-up, it's just stupid.

What he's effectively saying is that the best player should only come from the winners of the Premiership. leaving such blatant nonsense to one side, there was clearly only ever going to be one (deserved, however much you might dislike his unfortunate lack of balance) winner, and that was never going to be Dzeko.Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that Manchester City's Edin Dzeko would be a more deserving choice as player of the year than Liverpool's Luis Suarez.
Suarez, 27, won the Professional Footballers' Association player of the year award and will collect the Football Writers' award on Thursday.
"If the champion is City, then I would say a Man City player and if I have to choose, I choose Dzeko," said Mourinho.
It's not a wind-up, it's just stupid.
This is the way

Does anyone take any notice Mourinho any more? His so-called mind games are now ridiculous and I would not be surprised if Roman gave him the bullet, again.

I agree. He's brought in an extremely dated football noggin but continued with his mind games and won... NOTHING.arcadianagain wrote:Does anyone take any notice Mourinho any more? His so-called mind games are now ridiculous and I would not be surprised if Roman gave him the bullet, again.
How much did he win at Real Madrid...and now Chelsea... ?
His days are surely numbered.

A statement that might come to bite Mourinho back sometimes in the future.Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that Manchester City's Edin Dzeko would be a more deserving choice as player of the year than Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

I wonder how much a football team makes nowadays when they win the title. With all the extra TV time and sponsorship deals, it must be a fortune.
Suddenly the 50 million pounds that Manchester City have been fined for breaking every rule in 'Fifa Fair Play' rules' book, doesn't seem like such a bad deal... for them.
Only two regular English players in the team that won the English Premier League...

Re: Premier League 2013-2014
I suspect Mourinho might be putting in a bid for Dzeko in the summer! I'd be happy with that.
And for all the naysayers, Chelsea finished with 7 more points than last season, scored more and conceded fewer and got to the semi's of the Champions League. So for a 1st season back, without an effective forward line, that's not a bad return, and if it wasn't for for the fact the goals from midfield dried up in the last month or so, as the forwards weren't certainly weren't scoring, we might have actually won it!
So lot's of pluses this season, but also some mistakes. I guess letting Lukaku go on loan was one of them, as was selling Mata IMHO, as evidenced in the last month. But onwards and upwards, I suspect 2/3 new players will be arriving before next season and lessons will be learnt.
But yes, there are times when I wish the special one would become the silent one!

Re: Premier League 2013-2014
Yet for all that, as a Chelsea fan, the end of season has left me a bit perplexed, a bit surprised as to how we just capitulated and allowed Man City and Liverpool to fight it out for top spot. I know at the end of the season it is the team with most points who wins but I wonder why we didn't have those points at places we should have been sure winners. We took 12 points off the two teams above us yet couldn't follow suit with middle to bottom teams like Nowich, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa taking one point from a possible twelve in the last 5 weeks of the season. Mourinho may be a tactician for the big games but fell short in the games where we were expected to win easily, that needs to change or we will have another disappointing season next year. Getting a quality striker, who actually scores goals, will assist in that endeavour and maybe stop me from being perplexed next season.caller wrote:I suspect Mourinho might be putting in a bid for Dzeko in the summer! Just had a look at the finished league standings and was surprised to see 7 points separating 1st to 4th, then another 7 points from 4th to 5th.
It seemed this year the gap from the 'top 4' down was the smallest ever but evidently not...
