I think Falcons looked the same everywhere...USA, UK, Australia. I remember that one of the USA models had a V8, the same 289 that was in the base Mustangs. A lot of teenagers who couldn't find/afford a Mustang souped up Falcons. Pete

It is on a farm in Victoria, Australia. The owner is Eddie Ford (not joking), the publisher of several car magizines, including Restored Cars. I have the story about it in one of his magazines, but cannot find it just now.

While the spurs and hooves of the Australian Light Horse thundered towards Beersheba in Palestine during World War I, it's fair to say the exploits of many other Anzacs there that day have been largely forgotten.

The Great War was the first armed conflict during which motor vehicles would play a large role in moving men and equipment as an effective fighting force. Behind the historic charge by the Light Horse at Beersheba came men of the First Australian Light Car Patrol.

There were no dedicated military vehicles in those days, so soldiers modified the Model T Ford truck to suit desert requirements, removing wheel guards, covers and external fittings. A Lewis machinegun was fitted and this unique group was tasked with patrolling and fighting in Egypt before being sent to Palestine in 1917.

Generally, three Diggers would ride in each vehicle with no armour plate protection and the troop of six cars tackled the desert in a reconnaissance and attack role on enemy positions, including the battle of Beersheba and later at Aleppo, Syria in 1918.

Following the German surrender, the First Australian Light Car Patrol received orders to hand in their vehicles at Aleppo in 1919 and the soldiers returned home to Australia.

Hard to believe that a Model T could stand up to the arduous task in the desert when even the Abrahams tank initially failed in the recent desert conflicts......I guess the simplicity of the model T was the key. Thanks for the enlightenment, I had no idea that the Anzacs were in Palestine during the Great War.
