Moving to HH in April

Post by theprice01 »

Hi Everyone,

I'm moving to Hua Hin next April on an Education Visa and cant wait :).
I'm hoping to find somewhere to live near the language centre...I read the advice its best to look for places once there as they tend to be cheaper then on the internet, hopefully they will be.

I'm on holiday in Thailand from 28th Nov so will do some research with regard to accommodation then. House-shares & 'room to rent' don't seem to be as common in HH as in England...does anyone know why??
Also I'm a keen dancer, but cant seem to find and dance schools on forum/internet, I go to 3 classes a week here so would love to find somewhere!

Any advice would be great,
E :)

Welcome to the forum E.

The advice you've received is spot on regarding accomodation. There is plenty of budget accomodation available (especially if you commit to 6 months or more), which should negate the need to share.

^^ thank you for that, it would be more then 6 months...as ill be coming in low season do you think its a possibility that a privately owned hotel would have something to offer long term?
I'm hoping to get somewhere up to 20,000B's/£400 p/m, I don't need anything fancy as I will be out most of the time

A friend of mine has a fully functional/furnished place - new, clean and includes wi-fi for under 4000 Baht month - you just need to look around.

^ that's the kind of place I would be looking for, 20,000B is absolute max I'd want to spend, don't mind old fashioned places.
ill probably spend the first couple of weeks in a hotel anyway to find my bearings.

You're outta luck.

I'm curious, by 'dance' do you mean partner dance (e.g. swing, salsa) be it competition or social, performance dance (e.g. jazz, lyrical, contemporary), street dance, or what? If it's social partner dance you might be able to recruit someone to give it a try on a dirty floor in front of what passes for live music here.

^^lol Thanks for that.

I'm mainly into modern line, some ballroom & some lindy hop, competed for about 10 years but now just enjoy any dance form socially.
....shame there's no such thing as working holiday visa as I would love to teach a few weekly lessons again ;)

I'm a leader, are you a follower? I did east coast swing for 17 years, lindy for 3 and west coast for 13.

ohh, I'm also a lead :(. I love wcs music, you can really put your own style to it unlike some other forms of partner dance.
Have you ever tried Zumba? Some mentioned it in another topic, I'll try it out when I'm there as there is nothing else.

Hi The price01,

I'm renting a townhouse for 2,800 a month (excluded electric and water, both average 800 baht/m), in Mon Mai area, if you don't mind to have only one bedroom, one shower room with some space for store your stuff. I think it's pretty good area to live, but you might need a bike at least for your school.

Anyhow, welcome to Thailand. :)

Hi Pacman,
That sounds exactly the kind of deal i'll be looking for. I cant believe some of the rental prices being charged via the letting agents....you could rent in the north of England for similar.
I notice 'craigslist' isn't that active in Thailand, how did you come across your apartment?
Iv never driven a motorbike before so maybe a good time to start.

The rentals listed on websites are for holiday makers that want swimming pools, half the price of a hotel, and the agent to do all the work for them.

To get a cheap one you need to do the work yourself: http://www.expathuahin.com/renting-huahin.php
