If you had been disappointed it would have been bad, so by not being disappointed means it was good!!

Some British people have a problem in being too complimentary. A lovely British lady that I knew might have said in that situation --That was not as bad as I was expecting it was going to be---That was, in fact, high praise coming from her.

"That was not as bad as I was expecting it to be" means that it was actually quite good. I guess it's our way of saving face (every nation has it one way or another)... we're not quite saying we were totally wrong, but we're allowing for the possibility of being wrong in the future. Usually if somewhere wasn't as bad as we were expecting it will eventually become a new favourite, we just need to work up to it slowly!

"I wasn't disappointed" - We had high expectations (perhaps from reviews and recommendations) and when we got there the meal lived up to them.

Simple! :)

We've just eaten at the Kor Sor in Borfai and it was delicious. Good menu. We decided to go for western food for a change and had a starter to share, duck a l'orange for him and chicken in mushroom sauce for me, with 3 soft drinks between us. Total 800 baht, so not a bad price, but contrary to reports I read somewhere, they added nothing to the bill, no VAT and no service charge.
