Is Mr Finch still with Chavalit Finch?
Is Mr Finch still with Chavalit Finch?
I tried to look for James Finch's details and see from the web site and banner on here, that the company is called Chavalit now, and not Chavalit Finch.
Is he still with them, does anyone know? Thanks

Re: Is Mr Finch still with Chavalit Finch?
I was looking to have a Thai Will written and an English language Will updated to reflect likewise. As he is no longer working at Chavalit, and I have no previous experience of using staff at this office in Hua Hin, can anyone suggest a very competent lawyer who can be entrusted to do this work in Hua Hin, or would I be better advised to use a firm in Bangkok? Thanks.
Re: Is Mr Finch still with Chavalit Finch?
Go and get some experience of the staff at the Hua Hin office, I very much doubt you will be disappointed. We use them all the time.
Re: Is Mr Finch still with Chavalit Finch?
Chavalit the best in Hua Hin, no worries there, ask to speak with Jane and you will be well taken care of.
Re: Is Mr Finch still with Chavalit Finch?
I second that Chavalit & Partners is a very good law firm in Hua Hin and probably the best.
I spoke with Jane today and James Finch left 4 or 5 months ago.

Unless it has changed recently, how can they be called a "Law Firm" when their stock answer is: "we don`t do litagation", and from what I was informed, Jane is not a Lawyer.
They may very well excell at property deals, which makes them conveyancing agents, not Lawyers.

The guys do a great job and I have had zero negative comments from any of my agent friends or clients, they have brought a very high degreee of professionalism to their chosen field and have really helped to make the property market much better for those who choose to make Hua Hin the place they wish to buy.

Litigation is only one way to practice law, in fact it's one of the first things all law students are taught to try and avoid wherever possible. The other main branch is 'Transactional' law, which includes Conveyancing, Probate, Corporate, Tax and many others. A good lawyer should help you avoid litigation at all costs since it's only where there is ambiguity or disagreement that litigation takes place and this is then generally carried out by firms specialising in this area. Besides, not actively practicing surgery doesn't make someone any less of a doctor.Nereus wrote:Unless it has changed recently, how can they be called a "Law Firm" when their stock answer is: "we don`t do litagation", and from what I was informed, Jane is not a Lawyer.

I'm not sure about Jane's legal qualifications although I am confident that she's backed-up by a reputable law firm and probably knows more about conveyancing and how it should be done properly than any person in all of Pran Buri and beyond!

Lawyers will tell you the last thing you want to do is go to court because then anything can happen.
Lawyers do many things, litigation is only one. Some do litigation only, others never litigate. More than a few have never been in court.
Negotiation, contracts and tax planning are big lawyering activities.
Lawyers' names often remain on the company title even after they are dead. It's the brand and is attached to the reputation. Many corporations do the same. Example, Mr. Goldman and Mr. Sachs are long gone but Goldman Sachs continues to rule the world.

My wife's an attorney. She almost never goes to court. Almost all the stuff that walks through her door is transactional law, so that's what she does. If she gets a case that might involve litigation, she usually partners up, early on, with an attorney who is more experienced in that area of law.

I thought the OP was looking for somebody to help draw up wills?
Re: Is Mr Finch still with Chavalit Finch?
He is, but one post seemed to cast aspersions on Chevalit Finch because they don't do litigation. Others pointed out that many lawyers and law practices avoid litigation. Nothing wrong with Chevalit Finch being up front about that.Dannie Boy wrote:I thought the OP was looking for somebody to help draw up wills?
