Pinksquid,

As I matter of interest what the guide books warn you about when travelling to London, Amsterdam and San Francisco.

I know that anything I have read relating to Bangkok has been a complete load of tosh.

Damn it, I knew I shouldn't have include the old and well worn dyke joke into an otherwise serious recount.

Anyway Jockey, pay attention, the lady, was standing with her back to me. The umbrella was made by Burberry BTW so what soes that make me?
Quit now Guess - your pushing this into a hole one way or another! The fact that you can remember the umbarella's name doesn't make you any more dignified! :D

OK, back on thread. Some of the tribulations have been mentioned (although strangely, mainly of Japan & not LOS :? ). How about the joys?

Joys for me (not always transferrable to others  ):

coming out of my "I live here mode" every so often & seeing Thailand through the eyes of a tourist. Some of the sights we see every day & regard as commonplace are really very strange &/or wonderful to others.

The food! Sometimes you get Thai food that is far beyond your expectations (& often cheap, too!)

My little boys laughter. So naughty & spontaneous

Perfect weather when you have something nice planned

Saving a dog, seeing it through & getting it adopted (this one's not transferrable & doesn't happen nearly as often as we'd like!)

Special festivals, specifically Loy Krathong & Songkran (IMO) - infectious fun!

Sitting on the beach with no worries & a cold beer

Anyone else?
