Not if you can see the shooter and who they intend shooting at

Two, three, four, or even five small beers are not likely to make you drunk, but as has been said, they will put you on the wrong side of the law.

I'm not advocating drink driving, but if you have had a couple of beers, even if it's only two or three small ones, why would you risk going through a check point in the first place. In all the time I have been here, I can't recall a single occasion where the check point has been hidden from view.

As a general rule, I always tend to avoid them unless I'm in a hurry simply because they can always find reason to fine you if they really want to, especially in my case because I'm always on my saleng. :thumb: Saying that, I've never yet been stopped on my saleng even when I've go through check points. :D

I guess I'm also lucky because I'e been here long enough to know most of their favorite spots, and when they're likely to be there. :thumb:

I was just thinking the same thing, I've just spent a few weeks in Hua Hin and went home to Hin Lek Fai late at night most nights and never saw any police at all in that direction. (I wasn't drink-driving, when I take a break from work I probably drink too much to combine the two activities at all, let alone within the law!)

It might well be considered Farang territory, but to be fair, if the MIB are given orders to clamp down on drunk driving, it's a loss less risky for them to do so where it's mostly Farangs that will be getting pulled over. I doubt many Farangs return home from the bars with a loaded gun tucked in their pants, whereas the same can't be said for the Thais.

There are often shooting at Thai drinking venues, so I assume this is also taken into consideration.

Well didn't my little post just open a big can of worms????

As for the drink driving, I guess I have been brainwashed and just wouldn't risk it.
I live in a country where there is zero tolerance to alcohol while driving.
The penalties are prison, heavy fine, loss of job, deportation etc.

Instead of a mad Tuk Tuk ride, I generally try to find a taxi.

Then again, if you have a few beers, the Tuk Tuk ride can seem like a lot of fun....

So true, riding the rear step of a Baht bus, especially going up hill, also gives a thrill never to be forgotten. (lean back with butt down as if water skiing) You can even hold out your hand when it stops and say "ka ching, ka ching" as people get on and you may get some pocket change. :D Pete

The good thing about the tuk tuk option, is that at least the tuk tuk drivers have a special Ya Dong and Lao Khow permit so no MIB hold ups along the way so long as they stick to whiskey and stay away from the beer.

Come on guys, this is Thailand. Sometimes you can get away with things and sometimes you can't. The Thais know this and live with it, so why is it that so many Farang can't come to terms with it.

I've just had two beers and I'm about to have another while I listen to the sound of toads. When I'm done, I'm driving back home on my Salinger, but then again, I only have to drive about fifty meters, and the only traffic I'll encounter is a total of seventeen Soi dogs, all of whom know me, and allow me to pass freely through their turf.

Would I venture into town? No I wouldn't, not because I feel drunk, but because I don't intend throwing money down the drain for no reason. It does seem a bit silly though that the MIB don't set up checkpoints along the main road where there are several vibrant venues packed with people drinking. Nonetheless, some effort on their part is probably better than no effort at all.

Asia.....you gotta love it. I just hope I don't get done for ballooning under the influence when I try the balloon ride.
