Cloud Atlas.
38 minutes into this liberal propaganda, complete with gay celebration, incomprehensible 'dark' and depressing story-lines, bloody slasher violence and poor acting and I'm supposed to tolerate another 2 hours before finding out how it all knits together?
Forget it.

KILLING LINCOLN
Not sure if this should go into this or the Documentaries thread, but as this was actually more of a cinematic docu drama methinks it can sit here.
Nat Geo, riffing on the success of LINCOLN, decided to do a docu drama on the events leading up to and following the cowardly assassination of the great man, and pulled in a heavy actor cast to do it. Unfortunately they made one critical mistake: Instead of using reliable and recognised history sources to put the script together they used the totally discredited and debunked book by Faux Nooz's Bill O'Rielly. WTF?????? This is the book historians have branded little more than a fiction novel, a book so utterly wrong and bad on the facts the National Parks Service and Lincoln Memorial shops refuse to stock it. Its like basing a history of the US series on the equally stupid and laughably revisionist works of David Barton or Glen Beck!
So, the program was laced with factual inaccuracies and errors, and just plain old made up bunkum, which as this was pitched as a serious history drama is unforgivable.
Dross, and while it makes good eye candy is about a D- Must Try Harder on the educational level.
Do yourself a favor and instead watch the excellent PBS doc below

Re: Movies on DVD
Well, in the dearth of anything good worth a download Ive been hitting YouTube hard and Sandman TV has been a full on fest of Boys Own stylee classic historical/war epics. So here are a few for your delectation.
First up we are off to the Sudan in the bad old days of the Mahdi Uprising when the deserts swarmed with Fuzzy-Wuzzies and Dervishes and the Thin Red Line were busy trying to stick some steel up em cos they dont like it up em y know....
We start our evening in with the utter timeless classic and one of my all time favorite films from one of my favorite directors - the 1939 technicolor loveliness of Korda's THE FOUR FEATHERS. This film is just sheer magic in my opinion, and if I only had 10 films I could keep this would be one of them. Utterly British through and through, stirring stuff, beautifully filmed (as all Korda films are) and a true screen gem. Here in lovely DVDRIP quality 480p res:
Then Heston gets his vest on, we travel further back in the conflict, and old Charley gets a slow boat down the Nile to KHARTOUM as he plays Chinese Gordon facing down the Mad Mahdi himself, hammed out of all time and reason by Laurence Olivier in a wonderfully insane and camp performance. Brilliant stuff, Chuck through and through, and another utter classic in crispy DVDRIP quality.
As our war classics continue on Sandman Classic Movies channel we shove Chuck on a slow boat to China and wind the clock forward a decade or so, shove him in a marine uniform and plant him right in the middle of the Boxer Uprising helping David Niven face down a cast of thousands armed with swords who want to turn them, and all the rest of the gwailo invaders shacked up in the Foreign Legation District, into chop suey to go.....yes its the epic 55 DAYS IN PEKING. More stirring stuff in DVDRIP quality at
And lets face it, no true Boys Own War Classics evening would be complete without thousands of Zulus and a few hundred Welshmen singing in close harmony to hold em off..... yes.... Zulus....faaaasands of em..... its ZULU! Ive lost count of how many times Ive seen this, and it never ever gets boring, stale or old. They really dont make films like this any more.....although please for gods sake dont tell the remake happy hollydud asshats or they may just do a remake starring Will Smith as Shaka Zulu rapping in reply to Mel Gibson and the cast of Les Mis dressed in red tunics waving AR15s.....Here on Sandman Classic Movies we only do originals....and here it is in lovely crispy DVDRIP....
Tomorrow on Sandman Classic Movies we will mostly be watching Sabu movies (again made mainly by the Korda brothers) and some other light viewing. Links will be posted after Ive watched em with some comments as to why I loves em so.
So, if like me you are jaded with Hollydud no brainer eye rinse pap, give your eyeballs and brain a treat, tune in to Sandman Classic Movies, and swim in a technicolor matinee sea of love with me.....

Primer
IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390384/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
What do you do after building a time machine? Some combination of doing good for oneself, doing good for all, or profoundly screwing things up. Primer adds a twist. Other fiction keeps the 'space' part of space-time travel simple to make the story straightforward. Primer doesn't.
Four engineers in a garage startup company discover they've manipulated time. Engineer 1 takes the lead, improves it, gathers proof that it works. The rest of the film is Engineer 1 leading Engineer 2 through the use of space-time. #2 has a hard time grasping what is happening, as does the audience. Each time #2 and the audience thought we had it figured out, #1 opens another curtain and it's What The Heck Is Going ON?!? for both #2 and the audience. Just when #2 and the audience thought they had it all toghether the last scene blows our minds and the only solution is to watch the film again. Which, given the manipulation of space, fits perfectly. The second time it's not the same film because one's brain has enough extra cycles to learn different things from the overlapping dialog.
Were you bored by 'Inception' because the screenplay kept banging the audience over the head with what they needed to know to understand what happens next? I was. Primer was written so you don't think you understand what happens next until after the subsequent 'next' happens.
Fast facts. Made for $7,000, grossed over $500,000. Won grand prize at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the top, if not the top, independent film awards in the USA. Released in 2004. Cult status makes it easy to find on the Interwebs.
This film is not for those who:
- Need linear story telling.
- Can't trust that more will be revealed later which will explain what they're currently in the dark about.
- Can't handle overlapping dialog, a la Robert Altman (he directed MASH)

Re: Movies on DVD
I often bemoan how film makers just seem to waste perfect opportunities, and ones who make films crossing the war and horror genres do it more than most. Standout efforts like the classics THE KEEP and THE BUNKER and the more recent DEATHWATCH and OUTPOST are rare. Usually horror war films are utter arse.
And heres another
BATTLEFIELD DEATH TALES
This has to be one of the worst god awful efforts at the horror war crossover genre that Ive seen since WAR OF THE DEAD, which to its credit at least had passable special effects and CGI. In this three story anthology the "special" in special effects is the same "special" as in that kid who sat at the back of class drooling, licking the window and sniffing the glue pots. Joe 90 had more convincing special effects than this. Then there are the three god awful stupid stories and scripts, made all the worse by amateur dramatics society level ham acting. Finally to top it off film the whole shebang on a cheap crispy clean image digital film camera and dont bother spending two bob in post production to make it look less cheap and nasty and more "film like".
Im getting sick of film makers wasting the "perfect marriage" horror war crossover genre and swear to god the next one who buggers it up will be tracked down and fed to the pigs by yours truly.
4TH REICH better be good and better appear this year.... or else!
Utter crap and you will regret even wasting bandwidth to download it.
Three solid THBBBBTS!

Just watched a good movie WATER for ELEPHANTS. Christoph Waltz (Django and Inglorious basterds) at his best.
Moving movie.
Christoph is a brilliant actor IMO and Tarantino has given him the springboard for stardom

John Dies at the End
Not your typical psycho-action-comedy-horror hybrid. Plot? Generally, but with plenty of interesting side trips and flashbacks, It's about a drug that lets users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent alien invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets are John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity?
You want emotionally accessible characters or someone to cheer for or identify with? Ain't gonna happen. So why watch? Reviewers I agree with said it better than I could:
- More arch than amusing, John Dies at the End may exhaust your patience for everything-but-the-kitchen-sink "storytelling." Still, there's something endearing about its relentless barrage of gonzo happenings
-Straightening out what's ultimately ... a shaggy dog story isn't the point. Hanging on and soaking up a glorious bit of cinematic weirdness, courtesy of [the director's] fertile imagination, is.
- As with most fantasy films, the story is secondary to inventive images and speculative ideas. And more than most, this one adheres to its own logic in ways that are continually entertaining.
A low budget film featuring actors you've never heard of, except maybe Paul Giamatti. He plays a journalist interviewing Dave years after his and John's adventure took place.
Found on the usual torrent sites.

Colombiana (2011)
Action movie with a great plot.
Colombia, Chicago, CIA, FBI, Drug barons and revengeful sexy assassin mixed in a pot and you have a great movie.

GLCQ, I'll give it a whirl despite all the negative comments I've had from friends in England.
Giving my age away again I first saw the stage musical show in the late 80's in London. No money then so was up in the Gods behind a pillar.

I've just finished downloading it. I've heard mixed reviews as well. I must admit, having flicked through various parts of the movie, I'm not impressed. I won't rush to watch it, but I will when I have a spare 2hrs 37mins.

Have to agree - I watched the first 15 minutes earlier, and the songs are a bit like a spoof musical. Sort of 'make up the tune as you go' stuff.
This is the way
Re: Movies on DVD
ARGO
Intriguing movie and enjoyable. Love the Hollywood input to the plan and just love the Hollywood key phrase that is repeated all the way through the movie. When the title of the spoof movie is questioned and suggested it should be ARGONAUTS, the response is ARGO f*** yourself

Re: Movies on DVD
I love those Pixar animated movies and now that the kids are off school for 2 months they come in handy, especially when they're bombarded with Thai TV most of the time. Here are a few great ones out at the moment (adults can enjoy them too):
Wreck-It Ralph
A video game character comes to life to try and be a good guy for a change.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1772341/
Rise of the Guardians
The story of Jack Frost and all of the other things that make kid's worlds special.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446192/
Rio
Angry birds taking over Brazil at carnival time.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1436562/
The Lorax
A ball of fur helps a boy to find the last tree in existence.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1482459/
All available in crispy 700Mb DVD rips from our buddy Yify at the usual places.
