I do not have this problem myself but often unwanted toolbars are installed with programs. Which programs have you installed recently?

You may have tried this already.

Right click with your mouse on the offending toolbar and open properties menu. This should identify the toolbar.

I am not sure which browser you are using but assuming that it is Microsoft IE then go to your main menu (usually at the top of the screen) and select view/toolbars. If you deselect/un-tick the toolbar that you have identified it should no longer be visible.

Alternatively go to Control Panel and delete the toolbar from your list of programs shown in Programs and Features

Tried all of that Bristolian. The problem is that it doesn't seem to have a name. No properties, nothing. It's only there when I'm in HHForum :?

I am not a great fan of Microsoft products but I have found that with regular updates, good anti-virus protection and effective firewall, I have had no issues so far :D.Maybe I am one of the few?

IE has a reputation as insecure. It's one of those things that is difficult to shake off. While it was warranted in the past, new versions are pretty much as secure as FF or Chrome.

Have been trying to download a movie from Vuze.
I used to get decent speeds when doing this.
For some reason, though, the download speed has been chronic for the last few weeks.
I started downloading a 556 MB file yesterday and it still hasn't finished, with the speed often grinding to an absolute standstill for considerable periods.
The only things I've done to the computer recently is re-installing anti-virus software (avast, amlwarebytes, spybot) and replacing the router.
A normal TOT speed test says I'm getting the advertised speeds of 6 + 1.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Have you recently signed up for a VPN? These can have a significant impact on speeds.

A quick google search shows that Vuze is a torrent client. Is the torrent perfectly healthy with plenty of seeders? Have you tried downloading a different movie to see if the speed is any better?

Hi Pleng,

No I haven'T signed up for a VPN.
The torrent is from thepiratebay with few seeders - but things have been extremely slow whatever I've tried lately.
The current download speed is just 40 B/s, by the way :banghead:

40 B/s or 40kB/s? My download speed is normally between 2-300 kB/s although at the moment hovering in the 70-100 kB/s range.

Wow, you could go to sleep for a week and it will probably still be ticking away when you wake up. If you've tried something else and that's the same then you clearly have a problem. Probably wont work, but it won't do any harm to turn your modem/router off for 30 seconds and turn it back on and see if it makes any difference?

Vuze can be extremely variable, but obviously there are some factors that effect your download speeds which you can control: -

Don't use "Force Download"
Do you have movies already downloaded which are "seeding"? If so, stop the seeding.
Obviously the more being downloaded at once will decrease download speed.
I have also found if running Firefox with more than 1 or 2 Tabs/Windows open effects download speeds with Vuze.
