Rodalon disinfectant for fridge and clothes

Post by Pedro C »

In my home country we use a disinfectant fluid named Rodalon to disinfect refrigerators. It also removes mildew from clothes etc. It comes in a handy spray bottle. It is not a soap or cleanser rather than an anti fungus or mildew agent specifically made for refrigators.

Is there an equivalent product in Thailand and if so what is it's name (in Thai)?? Wife cannot locate any such in Tesco.
Life is short. Especially for those of us who have most of our future behind us.

It is a household product. It is also good for removing mildew and fungus in bathrooms and other places where dampness may occur. But we use it mainly for disinfecting our fridge and it does a wonderful job.
Nonesuch in Thailand?? What do your wives use to disinfect your fridge? -- Ah, they don't????

I can honestly say LP that I've never disinfected a fridge in my life! Never seen the need - and never seen any product for that purpose in the UK.
Yes - a mild soapy solution - washing up liquid does the job - but a fridge by the nature of it's environment surely shouldn't breed many bugs?
Or am I just a mucky cow?

I believe that bicarbonate of soda diluted in water is best for sterilising fridges.

MyLady;
I presume you are a formidable British housewife of noble breed, dedicated to order and cleanliness that can be surpassed only by Rose and Mrs. Bridges. Nevertheless, there are some who do not share your virtue and who have a more relaxed relationship with anti-bacteria remedies. Especially here in Thailand. I have numerous examples of guesthouses and hotels whose fridges have been closed with power switched off for days or weeks.

Here are a few examples on the usefulness of such product in Thailand:

A fridge that has been switched off for some time with the door left closed. MILDEW or fungus - especially if it has not been cleaned properly before switching off.

(S)Wetrooms; This type of disinfectant is also excellent for removing mildew from bathrooms and other wet areas where fungus (in microscopic form) may florish.

Also great for removing bad odeurs from car seats, cars and small rooms predominantly occupied by babies, smokers and drunks. (Support your HH Bureau of Hygenics and spray Soy Bean Tabac once a day.)
:run: l

Anyways, in the meantime Mrs LP found a Thai product that seems to have the required qialities and do the job. It came in handy when a baby had a minor mishap in our car.

If you have Windows Vista/7, you can install Thai as an additional language and use the onscreen keyboard

I tried to find chemical info of Rodalon, but could not. I suspect it was all hidden deliberately.

Most likely Rodalon is a cheap basic chemical, a weakly alkaloid liquid such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and can be substituted with baking soda aka sodium bicarbonate. Whatever cleaning or disinfecting of materials can not be done with regular vinegar can usually be done with H2O2.

Last time I bought 3% hydrogen peroxide it cost 50 THB for a 0.450 l bottle. It is also really good in disinfecting wound and cuts painlessly.

Very cheap, very effective but not fancied up, so not very popular.

Something went wrong on the H2O2 link and I can not correct it on the post. So here goes:

The Thai disinfectant turned out to be a spray cleaner and not a disinfectant.
I shall now try another product which I came across in Tesco. It's name is Dettol, written the same way.
According to the label it has multiple disinfecting applications.
Thanks for your input an suggestions.
