Hello there, My partner n I are planning to visit Cha-am & Hua Hin arriving on Monday 2nd December and will hang around for 5 days. We're contemplating whether to hire a car and drive from Suvarnabhumi airport or should we catch a taxi to Hua Hin instead. I am Thai by nation but has not been living in Thailand for the past 25 years. Driven in Thailand before but not in Bangkok.
Does the traffic in Hua Hin as bad as in Bangkok?
Last time we hire a car from Pattaya to Ayutthaya and the GPS was not very reliable.
We need to be mobile while we're in Hua Hin as well (according to one of the hotel we're staying as they are very isolate). Is it convenient to catch/call for a taxi in Hua Hin?
Any feedback would be muchly appreciated.
Regards,

Driving to Hua Hin
Re: Driving to Hua Hin
Hua Hin has changed a lot the last few years. It's full of people from Bangkok during week-ends and traffic is almost as bad as i Bangkok. Parking is equally difficult to come about. A taxi from Suvanabhumi Airport to Hua Hin will cost you THB 1800-2500 depending on your negotiating skills. Your hotel in the outskirts of Hua Hin should be able to book taxis for you to take you anywhere and back. Taxis, Tuk Tuks, motocy taxis are readily available in Hua Hin. Car taxis are mostly found at the railway station.SomTumPuu wrote:Hello there, My partner n I are planning to visit Cha-am & Hua Hin arriving on Monday 2nd December and will hang around for 5 days. When my wife and I travel to HH, I wouldn't dream of renting a car in Bangkok for the drive down - why? Enjoy a relaxing drive with a hired driver for around the 2,000 baht mark (advertised on this forum) - a couple of beers and a snack possibly. Arrive in HH, then hire a car for trips out etc. - job done.
Don't forget to hire a driver back!!

I would agree with the pharvey. If you get a taxi down, you will get to see more as you travel, than you would if you had to drive. The rentals at the airport are much more expensive than renting a car in HH. Ive used 'car rental hua hin', you will find them on here, and found them to be very good.pharvey wrote:When my wife and I travel to HH, I wouldn't dream of renting a car in Bangkok for the drive down - why? Thank you all for your feed back.
Traffic as bad as Bangkok. That is more than enough to convince me not to hire a car and get all stressed out! We will catch a taxi there and back.
Happy Holiday!!
