Painting photos onto canvas

Post by magpiecccc »

Hi All,

I have seen some very talented Thai people around Thailand copying/painting a photo onto canvas. Is there any one around HH that performs this sort of work?

Thanks

Not had it done personally but I have seen many artists studios dotted around Hua Hin and in particular around the Hilton area.

I would be careful, I dont think most of those are actually painted by the artist.
A couple of years ago my son noticed that the guy did not have any paint on his brush and was just dipping it in water and faking painting with it.
Every time i have been since I have looked and I have never seen one of these guys actually painting. appears to be a scam of sorts.
hope I am wrong but that is what i have seen.

This may not be the end result you're looking for but I have had some photos printed onto canvas (and framed) at Rinya Graphics - Soi 47/1 last month. They will do pretty much any size and can print onto canvas or less expensive vinyl. One of my canvas prints was 1.8m x 1.2m whereas another was a 3.2m wide panorama and the cost was around 4,500 Baht for this size with smaller ones around the 1,200 Baht mark. I must say, printed on canvas and framed in less than a week at that price was good enough for me.

Baan Silapin (Artists Village) on the Pala-U road, heading out of town is a good place to start looking and worth a visit at the weekend.

First glance I thought you were recommending the artist that did the sign

Here's some info + map of Baan Sillapin:
