On Thursday nights a group of us, elegant, wise old men of the world, meet at Grand Steak in the Night Mkt near San Paulo Hospital. Last night most of us ate their Rib dinner --159b for a half slab of ribs and the etc--not the best I have ever eaten, but very good. I am fascinated by this place--It is 100% Thai owned and operated but they have decided that farang food is their specialty and they do a good job. Im glad it is not called Great Steak but Grand steak--its not Great but is is good food and great value for money.

And your point is???????

Are you telling me that Japanese chefs are so remarkable, that you're willing to pay one of them $390 to cook your steak?

As BB mentioned, there is no such thing as a $400 steak, although I must admit, I do envy those who are exploiting the idiots that are willing to throw their money down the drain. :thumb:

We get a lot of aussie beef and lamb over in Dubai, and to be honest it is generally over rated. Whatever they inject into the beasts for the sea journey leaves a lot of meat with a liver like after taste. Much prefer New Zealand beef, but it is pretty expensive. I woud really like ot find aplace that does great BIG buffalo wings - I'd pay for that.

Oh don't worry Nereus. I'm just surprised that a Fundi who isn't willing to pay big money for steak is aware of the fact that the breed of cattle in question is actually "wagyu" rather than "wagu". :neener:

What's all this Fundi business - where I come from it translates into a workman who repairs things, rather like a chang in Thailand ( no, not the beer !!) ?

Please tell me where you can buy a whole fillet for 180 baht ( Roughly 2.5- 3.5 Kg) so 60 Bt per kilo ish. They will be the busiest shop in town if of any quality.

So, Aberdeen Angus is Scottish beef but Welsh Black is English beef? I must check my post code. I'm sure those are Welsh Black cattle in the fields near my house but I didn't realise I was living in England, not Wales, all along!
My mistake Jaime, Don't be worried, you are in Wales after all, just ask the cows. :thumb:

No I did not screw it up!

There is a vast difference in texture and quality of an animal of indeterminate breed or sex, that was slaughtered and sold the next day, (probably because it was well past pension age) as in Thailand and Aberdeen Angus or Welsh Black (from Wales  ) that are reared as High quality Beef and when slaughtered, are hung for 4 weeks or more to mature the flavour and make the meat even more tender.
Chalk and Cheese.
I had bought a small piece of fillet from the vendor a few weeks before and tried it on the BBQ and decided that it was not matured and the taste had not developed enough, that is why I slow cooked the second lot I got from her!

No, red meat I eat about once a year.
There are too many much healthier alternatives.
