i'm thinking of getting astro sattelite installed on my tv .

i have been told that you need a very large dish to get a good reception though , as the signal can break up quite easily with bad weather etc

can someone please advise me on what size dish i would need to get a good reception ( i dont really want a 10 ft one lol ) without frequent interuptions

I don't now about the astro but we have many interuptions with ubc when its rains ,but im sure someonecan help you about astro.

yes i think ubc is too expensive , thats why i would like to try astro , if i can get a decent picture .....

We just have the normal size True dish and have Astro on it as a second LNB.
Works fine (with a DB)!

I ( after a call to Barrys) replaced my LNb and redirected my dish ( some accurate fine tuning required) and can watch without any pixilation on most channels also with a DB. I asked but could not find anyone who could do this for me - including 2 satellite installers who tried and stated it could not be done.

Is the dish direction almost the same as for True ?

Also, are any channels FTA (free to air) or all scrambled and need a subscription card in the set top box ?

All scrambled. Direction 91.5E ( True 78.5) Elevation 72o (true 65 ish) Basically turn to the left a little and up a bit!! Fiddly but DIYable.

Thanks, I will experiment with a redundant True dish to locate the signal.

You will need to change the LNB to a universal - Available in Pure 300 Baht. True LNB will not work.

OK - I guess that any universal satellite box will work but a card is needed ?

Best to get a HD-compatible Dreambox (openbox) installed - the Astro service will then cost 300-400 baht per month.

No astro Hd channels viewable with dreambox. They are using the same encryption as True. lots of Sd still there at the moment though.
