where to buy thai rock music?

Post by Sukku »

Hello,

Does anybody know a music store where i can find cds and dvds from thai rock/metal bands?
Haven't found anything at the market village nor at the music store on the night market.

I'm looking for bands like big ass and retrospect.
I have found some clash stuff but i already have most of it.

Any hints?

In the past, my son has bought such music from the shop on left as you walk up the Night Market (if you can't find it, just ask them), and also at Tesco.

Huhu thanks for the hint, but i guess that's the same shops i've been to yesterday. :/
Aren't there any other ones?

Otherwise i hope to find some cds in bangkok.. Strange.. No thai rock cds in thailand.
It might be easier to buy them in germany ;)

OK, have you tried Tesco then? I've certainly seen Retrospect CDs being sold in there.

Panthip used to be a good place to get those compilation CDs of current Thai rock bands, never seen anywhere in HH though.

As BB said there should certainly be some in Tesco's.

You will have noticed that anything 'Thai' is a little more difficult to find. The reason being is that it is 'illegal' to sell pirate copies of any Thai DVD's or Cds... yes you heard that right :? .
Copying western stuff they don't really give a monkeys about as the money then stays within the country rather than out to Hollywood. Copying Thai stuff can displease the people in power.

I would of thought there would be some shop in MV selling Thai music... that's very surprising. Tesco's is the only place - really?

Good luck on your search

Just a thought and I'm sure you have already checked.

Many of the 7-11s in Bangkok sell a few Thai music cds. Can't remember if it's the same in Hua Hin.,

Sukku,
there is a guy up at the Cha-Am markets that had a fewThai metal cds last I looked. Also might be worth contacting Khun Sorn at http://www.metalthai.com as he would know for sure where the best places are in BKK.

You may be interested in this Triple jjj Australian radio perspective on Thai metal/rock.The presenter Andy Haug of the" Metal Racket " program is an absolute devotee of Thai music and is often in Thailand following up on the latest happenings-http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/racket/li ... lpha_T.htm

Also as a last resort try the "Thai Park" in Berlin as a long shot http://unlike.net/berlin/escapism/thai-park

Edit: Oops noticed the jjj radio audio link may blocked outside of Australia, still you can fiddle around the jjj metal racket site if you wish.

The OP has stated that she wants to by originals, not pirate.

Thanks for that Pleng... real help. Any shops to suggest on this thread  .

You'll notice the two places I did suggest were places that you may be able buy originals.

Hello again,

thanks for all your advices.
As said I have already checked the store thats on the street of the nifht market and both cd-stores in market village. One of them had an old record of big ass.
There aren't any big ass or retrospect cds or dvds in the tesco.
I have asked the employees at any of these stores ;)

Perhaps i'll check cha am next time. Before we leave thailand we'll be staying some time at bangkok too hopefully i'll find the cds i'm looking for.
Regards vanessa
