Well Friday is the day! If everything goes through as planned, I will have my Lifetime Family Membership at Springfield Royal Country Club completed. Will post the details and cost once it is complete.

Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
Good to see them making all the necessary changes at Black Mountain, that should have been done from the start. They were in such a rush to build it and open it back in 2006/07. The course now is completely different and better than it was in April 2007. The 2nd hole has been much improved, the tee on the 3rd has been lifted, 4th completely changed, 7th changed many times, 17th completely changed. I'm sure you all can remember the horrible 11th being completely re built to the lovely hole it now is. The 18th has always been a poor hole and I'm sure it will be much improved. I believe the owner still wants to have more big events and I look forward to that - The Royal Trophy was a great event for Hua Hin. It is a fascinating work in progress and the owner will never stop changing things.
Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
No he won't stop changing it, the mark of poor design!
Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
The owner at BMG does continue to change, he listens to advice from knowledgeable people and makes changes for the better of the course. It could be argued that number 7's changes havent really worked as it has become almost impossible for the majority of handicap golfers to have the chance to reach in 2, its visually very pretty but I do question its playabilty.
The bottom line for me is that its not the greatest layout we play but a days golf there is a fantastic experience, from driving into the car park to service in pro shop, locker rooms, practice ground, restaurant, all round service, course condition, views etc etc.
It really has done so much for Hua Hin that we should all be thankful.
Big
to the man they call Stig and his team
On another note I played Royal HH today, first time in a longtime. So the condition is not brilliant, greens are slow, fairways a bit hit rough but what a joy to play - its trully stunning - big old trees everywhere, really great design, short walks from green to tee, tough demanding holes and some of teh most visually stunning holes in HH. All for 800 baht.

Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
Agree with HH, JW. Was there on Wednesday and whilst there are better condition courses around at the moment, it was good value at 800 THB (+250 caddie). I think these sports days are every Wednesday and Friday until the end of October. There's a notice up around the cashier's office. I didn't see it but a friend mentioned it.
Shot 40 on the front 9, but the chipping and putting let me down coming home. Ho hum, one of these days I'll get the full 18 going properly!!

Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
Whilst I agree that the BM overall experience is very good the layout of the course is poor compared to Springfield which is in my opinion the best in Hua Hin area.
Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip

It is clear that not one Golf Course will be rated the "Best" by everyone. Different skill levels, different reasons of playing (exercise, challenge, social, etc.) Although I have chosen to join Springfield, I will also join the Golf Societies and look forward to playing all of the different courses. I will surely have "my favorites" at some point, but that will be personal and probably due to a low score or great shot that I will always remember. I am thankful that we can have such a trivial discussion about which one is best, due to the many choices we are so fortunate to have. I enjoy tough courses sometimes, fast greens at other times, and at times enjoy wide open fairways or simply having the course to myself. So one course will certainly not be enough for me. I say they are ALL Great in their own special way. So be proud of the fact that you are fortunate enough to have discovered such a wonderful game regardless of where you play it.

All good , valid points made by all. How good would Royal Hua Hin be if it was renovated? Fantastic, natural layout, but really needs new greens and new bunkering and an irrigation system.
I believe Singha have renewed their lease. Be interesting to see if they do anything to it.

Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip
The lease at Royal hasn't been renewed yet, lets hope they get it and spend some cash, some investment could make it into a very special course. Fingers crossed

I agree that Royal is a great lay-out and if only it had watering etc etc.
A friend went along to enquire about membership and was give numerous forms to complete, and which took sometime to do, when he returned them to the club he waited to hear and heard nothing. So he went to see about it after a month or so and was told - '' sorry we do not take farang members''
