British suspects arrested in Pattaya for ATM theft

Post by buksida »

This story seems to be just breaking so there isnt much in the way of detail yet ...

Two of three British suspects arrested in Pattaya after using car to drag & destroy Bank of Ayudthaya ATM in Chon Buri; Cash removal doesn't succeed.

A couple of "knuckle draggers" (inept)

And yet they both speak fluent Thai apparently.

The story is actually quite astonishing. They bought specialised tow ropes themselves locally from a shop with CCTV and left them at the scene. They managed to pull out a couple of ATMs but had no idea how to open them.

It's exactly this kind of ineptitude that gives us farang a bad name.

Quote from Neswspaper Report "The duo and a third man were responsible for trying to steal money from ATMs at three bank branches on June 14, 21 and on Thursday in Si Racha district of Chon Buri, police said".

The suspects fastened the ATMs to a vehicle with a rope to pull them off the wall into which the machines were built.

However, they failed to get any money from the machines.
*************************************************************************

The report on this crime above shows that they attempted to rob ATMs on "Thursday" 14 June, "Thursday" 21 June and then last "Thursday".  Nothing like building up a pattern ! And why did they think that after failing to open the first two machines that a third one might be different...........beggars belief and so amusing !

I would not be surprised that one of them (the brains behind the gang) has the nickname BALDRICK

it was obviously a cunning plan

Standby for the defence
after 10 years we wanted to go home so we robbed the ATMs to get the money for a flight ticket
when we could not get any money from the first 2 machines we went for the third to get the police moving so we can get deported

For me, one of the downsides about Thailand is the number of British criminals it attracts. The only positive thing is that at least in Thailand they will get apt prison sentences, although they might not be so much justice done if they'd managed to get inside one of them!

I'm afraid not as they say money talks not in the case of these clowns ... but for some who come here with a wad of cash you can shoot whoever you like and be strolling about... enough said

Remember do a strategy project for Nat West in the City and some joker rolled up during the night on a JCB and litrally dug the ATM out of the wall. I asked the bank directors why they didn't take more protective action. Brushed off with a comment 'for x thousand branches not financially feasible, OK to lose the odd one or two now and again'

Yes indeed, an astute observation there man.

A threesome of Viz style "Terry Fcukwits" imo. At least the third perp had the nouse (UK slang for intelligence) to 'do-a-runner' before it went south at the raid location.

Although, yanking out an ATM from the wall and putting on a pickup you hired without the slightest clue how to open it and get to the goodies......is very stupid.

However, from the pictures in the news they don't look like the Oxford/MIT/Cal Tech types.

Usually, the only ones who have the slightest hope of getting away with this sort of crime are ex-employees/ATM refill van drivers etc and they are Thai with inside experience.

This effort seems to be the ill-advised 'yee-haa' "We can pull-it-off" type of rubbish.

As an aside to the post above on the age thing......yes, they do all seem to be young to have been there for 10 years. :?
