TV series worth watching/downloading
Re: TV mini-series/HBO
Due to the lack of decent movies about I've been rekindling the travel bug by downloading some on the road stuff:
The Long Way Round
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403778/
The Long Way Down
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0959858/
Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman take one some epic motorcycle journeys.
Billy Connolly's Route 66
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2058779/
Michael Palin's New Europe
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1108394/
Now I seriously want to start travelling again ...

Re: TV mini-series/HBO
call me slow...maybe ts because Im a Dreambox user so dont get the True corporate mag
There are some new channels on True that have been added - BBC ones as well.
Down by Discovery Science/Turbo/TLC there are two - CBBC (kiddies channel) and a BBC lght entertainment channel
but best of all just after History/NatGeo/Discovery/Animal Planet there is now BBC Knowledge whch has loaaaaads of the programs Buksi flagged up in his post up there, Michael Palin travel stuff, Sir David Attenborough programs, Top Gear, ..... YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY! for Auntie Beeb
I just wish they would run BBC Hstory...a proper history channel....rather than the NostraDumbass / RealityTV "History Channel". Other than Pawn Stars, Pickers and Swamp People there aint a program on that channel worth a second look....and they are all on on the same sodding night.
Anyways....take a look through the channel list and spot those new extra Auntie Beeb channels.

Yes, of course sandman, you naturally being a Brit love anything from the Beeb. Just remember, Britain is no longer the center of the universe and there are other channels, movies, and programming to watch if you have an open mind.
I watched that movie you recommended, "The King's Speech". My wife gave up after 5 minutes and I finished it in installments over several days as it was so slow that it kept putting me to sleep. In the end I liked it but I would not recommend it to anyone that has any energy left in their lives unless they are interested in slow boring British historical films.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I have to say that I like a bit of Ollywood action as much as the next red-blooded Arnie wannabe, but let's not knock a bit of class just because of sandman's perceived prejudices.
The unfortunate thing with entertaining CG-filled modern films is that they do tend to numb the brain when it come to something a bit more challenging.
And the Beeb still does a few things very well. Unfortunately, not very often!
P.S. It's all very personal, isn't it? Sandman recommends Pawn Stars, but wild horses couldn't drag me to the TV to watch that...

I liked the British guy on the BBC who I can only describe as the drunk chef as I don't recall his name. I think he had a restaurant in Phuket as well and has perhaps passed away already? He would start the shows sober and be drunk as a skunk by the end.
It was a mix or cooking and travel I think. Really good show. Pete

Yes, I should stick to posting in my morning sessions. I'm afraid that one was PWI (posting while intoxicated).

Off topic, but why did you decide to change your avatar? I always thought you had the best one on the forum!

Oi...leave that icon alone....that is the great Terry Thomas lest my eyes are getting too crumbly. The archetypal English Cad.....a wonderful character.
And HHF.....Im by no means an Anglophile. I despise the UK which is why I live here - I hate its empty pride, its post empire dreaming and growing culture of ignorance. I am no fan of royalty at all. As Cromwell so rightly said: - Royalty is but a feather in a mans cap. Let the children have thier rattles.
Nor am I a USA hater..... its one of the most beautiful countres I ever travelled through (3 times just to see new ever breathtaking bits), and a place I met some of the most memorable and heart warming salt of the earth types on those travels. I love its cars, its cities, its architecture and its diversty and beauty. But its politcs and polcies, its childish relgiosity and celebration of ignorance I reserve the right to criticise till those things change.
Back to the point tho.....back around 2000 I remember that History Channel, Nat Geo and Discovery were chock full of great programs to watch. Now its all reality TV cack like Dog Whisperer and Nostradumbass conspiracy quackery and fuckwittery like Ancient Aliens. The Beeb may be following that lunatc downhll slide into dumbass TV, and I assure you that post John Birt's dsmantlng of all that was good there it is, but at least it is a slower process and there are still proper educational programs on there. Programs that US channels edit or refuse to show becuase Sir David Attenborough talking about the evidence for climate change makes jesus freaks cry.
If I hate the US so much HHF, riddle me this.....why is it I love watching Pawn Stars, The Pickers, Desert Car Kings, Swamp People, Moonshiners, Sons Of Guns, Mythbusters, How Hard Is That, and American Chopper...all about and made by common as muck yanks? If I think yanks cant make decent history programs why are three of the documentary series with pride of place on my hard drive The Civil War, Prohibition, and Liberty?
anyways..... there y go...I'll get back in that box you like to put me in eh?

You on the other hand must be a sucker for punishment, ok i suppose if you suffer from insomnia

Will you be watching 'The Iron Lady' then?
As much as i love Meryl Streep, i couldn't possibly watch a film that has anything to do with that evil witch

I would guess it will end up in the horror section of the local rental shop?

Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
