There is no diving in Hua Hin. The closest place is Koh Talu which is in Bangsaphan, two hours drive south. More info here:

Further south is Chumphon where the diving gets a little better:

I would contact Easy Divers in Chumphon if you want to dive there or let me know if you want further info, I went down there for a couple of dives last month, nice reef, turtles, not too crowded (unlike Koh Tao).

I spoke to an American chap in coconuts bar about 6 months ago who opened up a dive shop here in Hua Hin. It was near the clock tower i think. I was invited to the opening but coudn't make it.

Adrian,

Never been to Koh Talu, so can't comment.

But if you want to go away to do a few days proper diving, you won't get much better than visiting Koh Tao Island. See the threads elsewhere on here about the place.
It takes about 4.5 - 5 hours to get there, has accomodation, beach bars, restaurants etc etc.

The dive shop was just an agent for elsewhere, as said above you cant dive in HH unless you want to spend the best part of an hour in 1 meter viz looking at mud.

Koh Tao is ok but it really is a beginners island so the reef isnt in best condition and it gets very overcrowded. I was very impressed with the dive sites off Chumphon with the exception of the occasional fishing nets.

<rant>
The government make so much effort calling somewhere a national park and charging foreigners inflated entrance fees but do bugger all about fishing boats destroying the reef

Looks like no chance that my friends can visit HH in this case. Thanks once again.

Why don't they spend a couple of days here visiting you and a couple in Chumphon diving, its only 3 hours away?

Randy, I'm not going to get into a "whose got the better diving qualification" battle with you, its petty. What I do know is that after diving throughout Asia for many years I would not consider Hua Hin diveable, yes you can dive in the klong if you like but thats not the point.

There are a couple of wrecks off the Pranburi coast but they're a lot further than 10km, closer to the middle of the Gulf I believe.

Anyway, I'm willing to be proved wrong, does this guy offer day trips out? Have you been out there yourself or do you fancy going one weekend?

I can't see that it is given away. If you can't do a rescue you have to go back to rescue.......The requisited certifications reqiure many more that 20 dives...........have a gander at the PADI Inst Manual to note the requirements are consistant with the industry as a whole. the Recreational Scuba Training Council is doing a good job in making the training consistant. Look, as with anyother professioal some are better than others. I have made thousands of dives all ove the world and am very familar with the PADI system and personally know that some a re better that others. For me, honestly, I hate DM's....but I have, as well I should, very hight standars. If there are some questions as to PADI Standards.....I have a copy of that Instructor Manual on my computer!
