Light beer

Post by LHV »

It's taken my 41 years to figure out that I drink the same volume of fluid on a night out regardless of alcohol content. As I'm finding it harder to get out of bed in the mornings, I've switched to light beer (under 3.5% alcohol or thereabouts). Is light beer readily available in bars around Hua Hin? Cheerio, Luke

Too funny! Its taking me 40 years to learn the same thing.
I switched to light beer just over a year ago.
Sometimes I have a few regular beer to get things going.
No doubt, the morning after is better and you don't feel nearly as sick.
Bonus, you belly doesn't grow as fast either.

Probably on the shelf next to the decaf coffee and fat free sausages at 50% more than the originals.

What is the true definition if a light beer? I always thought it had to do with the calorie and carb content by adjusting ingredient levels, and not the alcohol content? Pete

I think Oz were ahead of the game on this and now some UK supermarkets sell their own brand 'light' lagers at 2.5%. My BIL is aussie and isn't much of a beer drinker, he offered me a beer once, apologising as all had was a light beer - I checked the label, it was 5.2%. It was Hahn (very nice), he just thought the lightish blue label meant it was 'light'! :D

Pete, my understanding is that it relates to the alcholol content?

Yes, Wiki indicates it could be either. I remember ages ago when the first light beer came out (Miller Light) sometime in the '70's, and it was all about calories then. Pete

It is confusing because some 'light' beers are lower alchohol level whilst others are low calorie, it depends on the brewery.
In Thailand Chang Light is about 4% and Singha Light is 3.5% but San Miguel Light is more of a low calorie product.

No research, just memory, that the average American beer in the normal size bottle or can (12 oz?) is 110 calories whereas the average light beer is 90. Not going to make a lot of difference it you down a dozen of those puppies at a sitting. Pete

You can get light-ish, 3.5% alc (we call it mid-strength in Australia) low carb beer in Australia (e.g. Pure Blonde Naked, Hahn Super Dry 3.5) but it sounds like Singha Light is the best option for me in Thailand. Can you get Singha Light at most bars? Cheerio, Luke

Cascade Premium Light Lager is a full flavoured, low alcohol beer at 2.6% alc. content.

Pure Blonde Premium Lager is a Low Carbohydrate, 70% less carbs than a normal strength beer, 4.6% alc. content.

Both the above are just a selection from our Aussie Beers collection available from our shop, wholesale prices by the case are available.

That's good news. At least my take-aways can be covered with Cascade from your shop! See you in July, Luke

I thought Cascade was from Tasmania. One of my favourite beers of all time so I will have a look in the fridge next time I am in JD. I won't tell you where you can stick the light version
