Re: hua hin floating market!!
As I wrote this yesterday I wrote it as a joke:
“Hello Tesaban Hua Hin, please more of these not-to-miss pleasure spots!!!”
But it is NOT!! I went there and discovered that there are TWO different sites in very close proximity of each other. And it seems they don`t like each other very much as they are claiming copying the idea!
One site is at Soi 112 out of town. A big sign on the road screams about the upcoming occasion. But virtually NOTHING so far has been build, except of a construction container. Earthmoving vehicles are scattered all over and the whole area is full of open holes and trenches. As for a new water market there not even a drop of water to be seen so far. But the container guys are quite confident that everything is up and running by June this year.
The second site is behind the huge waste mountains close by in the west of Hua Hin. The pleasant odours are hanging over the spot making it a tempting tourist destination. There is only a dusty earthroad going there. Here, too, I haven`t seen any buildings.

Hi Everybody
I would just like to clear up the speculation on the price of a shop unit in the new floating market.
Its a 3 year contract 400,000 baht plus 3000 baht per mth maintanace
a corner/end unit 450,000
This is the price for the one nearest the main road not the smelly one also being built a bit further out.

Re: hua hin floating market!!
Hua Hin will soon open its first floating market on a man-made 50-rai plot on Soi Hua Hin 112, along Nhong Hoi-Thab Tai local road and about six kilometres from the town.
The market is expected to add a new shopping activity for visitors in addition to the many current markets such as an artificial old market, an art market, night market and flea market as well as community shopping malls.
The official name of the new market is Sam Phan Nam Hua Hin Floating Market. It is a another project of the group of Thai entrepreneurs who built the Ayothaya Floating Market in Ayutthaya last year.
Although the management team of Sam Phan Nam Hua Hin Floating Market declined to give any further details, they have already advertised the floating market through various sign boards in Hua Hin town.
Brochures were also distributed in seafood restaurants along Hua Hin beach calling for vendors to sell their products, food or services free of charge.
The market, which is scheduled to open on May 5, will have 31 zones and will be built with a mixed atmosphere evoking the early Rattanakosin era and a walking street in the West. Its large parking lot will accommodate up to 1,000 cars.

Does anyone know who to contact regarding renting space at the new floating market being developed south of Hua Hin. Furthermore I would also like contact information for the new shopping centre across the street from City Hall. Thanks

Hua Hin has never been short of tourism attractions. Soon there will be not only one, but two new floating markets in this retreat destination.
Located not far from each other, Hua Hin Sam Phan Nam Floating Market and Hua Hin Floating Market can be found in Soi Hua Hin 112, a short drive from the town's train station.
Owned by different parties, both floating markets will offer tourists an array of food and shopping areas redolent with the ambiance of yesteryear.
According to Hua Hin Sam Phan Nam Floating Market general manager Anusara Dankul, the 200-million baht project occupies a 100-rai plot of land.
"We are experts in developing floating markets and we plan to have five floating markets nationwide," she said.
The market will be managed by Ayothaya Floating Market 2552 Company, which launched Ayothaya Floating Market in Ayutthaya last year. The floating market in Hua Hin is its second project and is now 90% complete.
"We chose Hua Hin because many tourists spend their vacations here and they also have a high purchasing power," Anusara said.
The daily floating market will be launched on July 15 with a traditional Siamese theme recalling the days of King Rama V and King Rama VI. The project will add a second phase within the next six months with a new market section to be built in the style of classical Greek architecture. This section will offer both domestic and international brand name products.
"Our theme will be an East-meets-West concept," Anusara said, adding that besides 200 outlets for food and souvenir shops and 40 boats offering hot meals, there will also be performances four times a day and a train service that will run inside the project as well as a reproduction of the well-known Hua Hin Railway Station.
Tthere will also be outdoor activities such as cable ski service, water screen shows and a paddle boat service to take tourists around the market.
Hua Hin Floating Market, on the other hand, is smaller in size, located on a 40-rai plot of land before its rival's location when you drive to Soi Hua Hin 112.
An initiative by local investors, the market recreates the atmosphere of old Hua Hin with colonial design buildings and will feature more than 130 shops and 30 wooden boats selling hot meals, snacks and beverages. There will also be local performances three times a day, including an elephant show by Hua Hin Safari.
The construction of Hua Hin Floating Market is scheduled to be completed next month and it will open to the public in August.

Re: hua hin floating market!!
Doesn't it seem funny that something that used to be a normal Thai part of life is now artificially turned into tourist attractions...? Real floating markets still exist if anyone wants to go and find them...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: hua hin floating market!!
I agree HHF!
The whole concept to me is just awful. I went to the 'heavily advertised around the world' one once and thought it a massive con and I always tell folk to avoid it. I just cannot imagine ever wanting to go visit a few shops built around an artificial lake and thinking it will be fun to do so. But I guess many others will?

Which is handy if you can't find the time to visit the real one which is nearly 11km away !...as well as a reproduction of the well-known Hua Hin Railway Station.
Hold on, yesteryears ambiance in these parts was malarial mosquitoes. So yes I guess a couple of large stagnant ponds may well take us back to King Mongkut's time....redolent with the ambiance of yesteryear
I am mystified. Lucky I've got my skis here or I'd have to rent some.there will also be outdoor activities such as cable ski service

Re: hua hin floating market!!
I share the cynicism of the last few posts. It is particularly absurd (and I'm obviously having a cultural block here) that two separate floating markets should be opening just a spit and a fart from each other in the midst of a sea of pineapples.
I don't honestly know if they'll succeed or not, or if one will succeed and the other, err, sink. I'm not even sure if I want them to succeed...
They have been compared in another thread to PleurnWan opposite Index, and that seems to be thriving, mostly with well-off Bangkok Hi-Sos.

Does everything have to be a "Whingathon" on here?
If you don't want to go then don't. What is wrong with people who work all week visiting crappy tourist attractions at the seaside on the weekend? Haven't you ever been to Brighton, Margate, Southend etc??? Paid over the odds for food and drink? Ice creams?
Anyway rant over

Wouldnt life be dull if we all wanted to do the same thing and have the same interests? It clearly wont suit everybody but I for one will give them a look when they are open and make up my own mind - like them and I will return - don't like them and never to be seen again!!!
Cheers

I strongly suspect it'll be the latter and suit the Hi-So's and not me, but like you, I'll take a look at both and make my own mind up........ Well, to be honest, I imagine the Long Haired General will make my mind up for me
