Another (new?) restaurant recommended by the missus
Re: Another (new?) restaurant recommended by the missus
Do these places get really packed- is there a better night to go, less crowded
Re: Another (new?) restaurant recommended by the missus
The one on Petcha gets packed at weekends with the onslaught of BK Thais but I've only ever had to queue once in 6 years and that was for 10 minutes. Thais tend to eat quickly and then bomb off.
Time-wise I usually go at 7.30 but to pick your favourite spot 6.30 would be better. Any later and they may have run out of some food (they buy fresh daily from the wet market). Have known them run out of shell fish, fish and ice-cream
One word of caution. You can eat as much as you want BUT there is a charge if you leave large amounts of cooked or uncooked food. If you are going with a bunch of Thais though they will manage any leftovers with suitable tactics when the staff are not looking
Enjoy

Thanks Richard,
Arriving into HH next Wednesday from OZ and have the wife's family coming down from Nangrong to stay with us so this is an ideal place to take them.

The report in the BKK Post on rogue meat suppliers selling/processing already dead chickens stated one of the
regular markets for this meat butchered by foul means (555) is the Korean B.B.Q. owners who buy in bulk.

These ones are cooking in the ''soup'' rather than on charcoal aren't they Richard? Whilst they're bloody good, you can't beat the flavour of a charcoal BBQ

You are thinking of "Suki Yaki" which is what you get in MK where you cook everything in the soup. These places are similar to the Korean style of a charcoal fired grill plate with a "moat" around it which the juices from what you cook and the marinade/sauce run down into the broth giving it flavour. Some are delivered to the table and some are a fixed BBQ. Enjoy a cold beer or three whilst cooking small batches of nibbles waiting for the soup to flavour up before adding the veggies and noodles. It takes a few minutes before the lump of fat you get is ready to lubricate the hotplate. 2nd beer done by then
and you are ready to start cooking.
I have been to many very good ones. Some all you can eat, others by item. The one at the bottom of the Palau road is ok and certainly good value. TT comments about going to a restaurant and cooking yourself are valid but it is a very sociable way to dine and for 59-199 Bt a head??? You do not have to get your own drinks BTW. I will give the one in MV a try.

the one richard is on about palau road and petcha kasem road both do beer, but stay away from the draught its not good,we go there quite often wqith the in laws and they love it,so do i its cheap night out with 6-7 of them
Re: Another (new?) restaurant recommended by the missus
They are also a great place for a first date. When you ask a Thai girl out she will always bring a friend or 3 along as chaperones which can be awkward in a more formal setting. You can do the romantic dinner and bottle of wine on the clifftop watching the moon rise and pointing out the constellations later.
Anyway
Be very careful when your beer arrives as they will try to put ice in it
