Sea Water Quality Hua Hin
The sea in Hua Hin seems to have a constant layer of scum.
It can be seen left on the beach when the waves go out.
I do not remember the beach having this layer of scum left behind from the water, in years gone by.
What is it?
It seems to be everywhere now even out to Suan Son.
Maybe further.
Any thoughts, comments, info on beaches where you don't see it etc. appreciated.
Thanks
Tony

Shit from the hotels!
Diplomacy is the ability to tell a man to go to hell so that he looks forward to making the trip
Re: Sea Water Quality Hua Hin
I was in Hua Hin around this time last year and remember similar occurances. Managed to find a mildly clean area at some point along the main beach though

It's floating across from Pattaya. Don't ask for too many details.

Re: Sea Water Quality Hua Hin
I did notice an absence of scum in the water yesterday when walking the beach.
From the replies to my post I can deduce that:
Hotel occupancy is way down, hence no shit from hotels.
The Pattaya tides seem to be running the other way unquestionably.
The mafia property developers are not in swimming mode.
Thanks to all who replied.
I now realize it is much to hot for such a question.
Aloha Tony

I do believe that the city of Hua Hin does not, repeat not, have a sewage cleaning facility and that waste water is let out directly into the ocean.
Right? Wrong?
Right? Wrong?

I believe that too, and I would never set foot in the ocean near town. I don't remember the exact location, but somewhere near the north end of downtown (can be seen from the viewpoint or pier or one of the beach restaurants north of the Hilton) is a huge pipe (1 meter+ diameter) that dumps into the sea through a sea wall and I have been there when what was coming out of that pipe made the whole area smell like a toilet that hadn't been cleaned in years.
That was a few years ago so it may have changed, but I believe someone on here would know if a sewage treatment facility was built in the last few years.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Geography! (Or Geology, depending).
Next time you are on the beach, notice how once you lose the rocks, suddenly the beach is clean and the water is clear. That is just because to the north of the rocks the beach is at a bad angle to the prevailing current and the longshore drift effect doesn't work, causing rubbish to 'back up'. Once you get clear of the rocks, then the longshore effect kicks in properly and the beach is largely swept clean, and the water quality improves as (whatever causes the) sediment and suspension can't concentrate the same way.

Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

That's why i'm building a swimming pool, the sea is too dirty for me to go inside.JimmyGreaves wrote:Shit from the hotels!

The thing still there... and you have now the same in Koh Samet ! This people will never learn, it would be cheaper to build a treatment station than the loss on tourism because of pollution.hhfarang wrote:I believe that too, and I would never set foot in the ocean near town. They don't know how to manage a resort town.

Quote from the Hua Hin kite school site:
The beaches of Hua Hin are very tidy and unpolluted, due to a very modern surage and waste managment. The quality of the sea water is strictly controlled by the city council and regular chemical monitoring guaranties best swimming and surfing conditions.
