Heres how I approach the "face" question - try and remember a film the face has been in, look the cast up on IMDB or Wiki, then when you get all three cross reference their career lists again using IMDB or Wiki.

So, Mr Smart Alec Sandman where does that get us?

1) plays Russians (usually KGB) and Irishmen a lot in TV and film, but for the life of me I cant remember the name of one Ive seen him in. I think hes Irish. Man this is naffing me off.....

2) Brendan Gleeson (Monk from Gangs of New York see....)

3) Maggie Q perhaps? Looks like her.

My guess as to the genre would be political thrillers/spy stories.

Interestingly all of em seem to have a touch of the Irish about em.

Main actors' faces are easy, so second string faces give that extra challenge.
nice logic path Sir smart Alec Sandman. :mrgreen:

yes political thrillers/spy stories is correct, all by well known authors

2) is correct :mrgreen:
3)Touch of Orish? Nah, touch of the sun there. She is Vietnamese and as good looking as Prcscct's wife.

nuber 1 is still stumping me. I cant reember the name of the film I have him in and my mate has my DVD collection on loan

actress3 - is that Kathleen (Katie) Luong then?

for Brendan Gleeson Im guessing it would be his role in The Tailor of Panama, and for the lass her part in The Quiet American.

finally I have actor 1.... he was the bishop in The Mission sent to close down Jeremy Irons's jungle mission - look up the cast on IMDB and you get.....

Ray McAnally.

which I am guessing his link to the others is his role as Gen. Karpov in The Fourth Protocol

So....

Ray McAnally - The Fourth Protocol....book by Freddy Forsyth
Brendan Gleeson - The Tailor Of Panama ... book by John LeCarre
Do Thi Hai Yen - The Quiet American - book by Graham Greene

Then again Ray McAnally has been in a fair few spy films including The Looking Glass War (book by John LeCarre),

which in turn gives you a nice odd man out bonus...or woman in this case, as Do Thi Hai Yen has not been in a film based on a book by John LeCarre whereas Ray and Brendan have.

Messi as Sandman does a nice cross into the net. :laugh:

Yes, the books and the movies are correct.

Michael Caine was in two of the movies.
I admit like these genre of novels.

The good news is that Daniel Silva has now signed up to allow his books and hero, Gabriel Allon the Israeli assassin, to be made into movies. Very topical.

now how to approach the clues
The bird (avian) has re back ground which suggests fire bird but not a phoenix.
The Chains are ships chains, usually with the mid span joiner.
the top hat. ?
somehow I first think Gangs of New York.
Need to mull over this :?

The bird is the symbol of a football club, and the background colour their strip.

Jimbob needs a slap :wink: and as for Richards suggestion, Sir Matt Busby (A Man Utd legend) did, in fact, play for and captained Liverpool FC.

OK... its not a top hat its a STOVEPIPE top hat....an older version of a top hat - popularised by US president Honest Abe Lincoln AND our famous Englishman.

then theres a set of chain links

then theres the liver bird, the symbol of Liverpool Football Club

and heres the last clue
