You need to come to Paknampran!
Re: seafood restaurant?
I've heard the restaurants at the fish market in Cha-Am are excellent, and well priced. However, i don't really eat fish, so hopefully one of Cha-Am experts can confirm this.

We always go to Medsai in Cha Am, fresh, cheap and right on the beach!Big Boy wrote:I've heard the restaurants at the fish market in Cha-Am are excellent, and well priced. However, i don't really eat fish, so hopefully one of Cha-Am experts can confirm this.
Take the beach road north from the main intersection coming from the highway and go past all the hotels. When the road splits, stay to the right and you will see the sign on the right before the road turns to gravel.

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
Re: seafood restaurant?
There is another excellent seafood restuarant behind Medsai in that complex by the harbour. It's the second one on the left and my partner tells me that it's been featured in Thai magazine reviews. The chilli crabs there are really good.
Some of the best seafood I've eaten in the area has been at small local places between Paknampran beach and Dolphin Bay. There's one on the corner where the beach road turns inland at the northern end of Dolphin Bay that's one our favourites.

Re: seafood restaurant?
Mini Farm Thai restaurant on Soi 88 (across the railroad tracks, turn right, about 100 meters on your left) has some very good seafood dishes at reasonable prices. Their whole snapper (poached to perfection) in lemon sauce is the best I've eaten anywhere. It was not on the menu when we started going there and I'm not sure if they've added it or not but they are happy to make it if you ask for it (that's what my wife does as she just orders without a menu). Also, for us farangs, they will take the bones out if you ask but still be careful to look for small ones that got past them.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: seafood restaurant?
I'll have to remember that. I'm very lazy when eating, and it's not that I dislike fish, I simply can't be bothered with the bones.hhfarang wrote:for us farangs, they will take the bones out if you ask but still be careful to look for small ones that got past them.

Re: seafood restaurant?
Me too, Big Boy! I was spoiled living in the west eating only fillets or de-boned fish. The very first time I came to Hua Hin, almost 8 years ago, I ate fish and got a 3cm bone caught in my throat with the sharp end down stuck into the side of my upper esophagus. I had to go to the ER to get it removed... since then I'm very careful eating local fish and get it without bones whenever possible.

Re: seafood restaurant?
One thing I learnt whilst living in Indonesia was that eating fish with your fingers the way the locals do was a good way of avoiding getting bones stuck in your throat.

Also Lets Sea is always recommended to us and there loo's are supposed to be really posh
I am a creature of habit and have eaten in the other retaurants but Chao Lay really is a good eating dining experiance.

is there a taximeter in HH ? if not, what must I max pay for one trip to Cha am ?

Re: seafood restaurant?
No meter taxis here, a bus (cheap but difficult schedule) or a tuk tuk or songtaew (expensive) are your only options that I know of.
