Is there a website or way to check on local accidents? When I was coming back from Bangkok today, I saw an accident on the road. A man, lying on the ground, lots of blood (I think coming from his head). There was no ambulance, no police, anything, so maybe it had just happened.
I'm not impressionable but for some reason I've been thinking about it all afternoon. Would make me feel better to know what happened and that (hopefully) he survived.
Where to check news on local road accidents?
Re: Local road accident
Happens all the time man (sorry if a bit rhetorical/indifferent). I'm afraid you have to get used to it, even if uncomfortable. Think you can just ring the local cops and enquire who was involved but it would have to be your Mrs/girly as you might not get much of an answer yourself.
There are probably hundreds of these situations every day, can see by how many white drawings there are on the asphalt when you drive around. I too, have seen disconserting situations on the road that have victims, just have to push it to one side, without sounding too indifferent, as it is sadly an everyday happening here due to the incompetence of the average driver plus the general attitude of road users.
Just make sure you are not involved in any of it.

Re: Local road accident
I used to live in Phuket and drive from a small town called Chalong, to Patong for work everyday. In one week, I'd see, on average, about three accidents (usually drunk shirtless farangs on motorbikes- or whatever was left of it) on the very same road.
I spoke to a mate who worked at the local hospital, and apparently, they've stopped keeping track since the numbers are far too high. Records are usually kept to monitor unusual events. Road accidents around here are commonplace.
Welcome to Thailand.

Yes, if you live here, or you intend living here, then you'll need to get used to it, because as others have said, it happens all the time. Don't get me wrong, because not all Thai drivers are bad drivers, but the majority are. You're not even safe when you're stopped at a red light. Just the other day I saw a car smash into the back of a pickup at a red light. The driver, a woman, was more than likely yapping on her phone and never even realized there were about 20 cars waiting for the lights to change. I've seen this happen many times already, which is why I always make sure I'm not at the back of the queue if I'm on my bike. One always learns you must keep your eyes on the road, but here in LOS, if you do that, you die. I spend more time looking in my mirrors than I do looking ahead.

Not sure if it was this one, but yesterday afternoon there was an accident near the Honda dealership, car and motorbike, (Yamaha Fino), motorcyclist fatally injured.

Re: Where to check news on local road accidents?
Why do so many Thais (& farangs) become so pig-headed,arrogant and downright selfish when they are
driving??
On any trip to Bangers you will be carved-up, flashed repeatedly to move over (no matter what speed over
120 you are doin!).
Trucks take 3 seconds to pull out into your lane in front of you, knowing damn well you will have to drop from 100Ks+ to 40, then it'll take 3 minutes to pass by the truck that was in his way!
If you are 'flashed at' and think Ok I'll move over to the left for the impatient sod coming up behind..
..please,please check that l/h mirror before going over to the left..another car/pick-up is more than likely
undertaking you very fast at that time!!
Safe driving to you all.

↑ In the West we see from birth almost what happens if people drive like fools; hefty fine, points, loss of license etc. Here, people do not have that happen and I think driving is one of few avenues available to portray power and freedom for those who have little or none in other aspects of their life, IMO. In Bangkok people tune in to FM100.0 (จ.ส.100). People who see road accidents phone in to the station and there is live commentary re traffic conditions, severity etc. There are other stations but this is the most well known. I'm sure there are some local ones too but you will have to understand Thai to know what is going on.
