If you take a look at the synoptic chart it gives a better idea of what is happening. The current weather is influenced by a big high pressure area over roughly Vietnam. This is giving a North Easterly air flow to the Eastern part of Thailand, but it is opposed by a North Westerly air flow out on the Bay of Bengal, which roughly converges along a line near Hua Hin. It is unlikely that weather flowing from the East will make it across the Gulf.

It is not raining in Bangkok where I am, although it is overcast there are no heavy rain bearing clouds around.

There is very little actual rain shown in those radar returns, Pete. Only the upper part of the yellow into the red is regarded as precipitation. Also, the scale that they are using ( dBZ), has a bearing on how the returns are interpreted. The returns from the outer edge, around 150km, are about 1.5 km above the ground.

Little rain! I haven't been checking colors due to no electric, high winds and enough water to flood the entire route between house and daughters school up to my truck's mid-wheel. Black as night here once again so more on the way I'm afraid. It is gloriously cool though. Will never complain about rain. :D Pete

Well, that just goes to prove what I am saying! The radar is showing blue and green in your area, which, on their scale, is bone dry!

We should see what is the hottest day of the year this year. In 2006 it was March 19 at 41.6C. 2007 it was April 26 at 44C. All the other statistics I can find show some date in April, and of course the hottest location in the North or Northeast.

Here I sit on March 10 at the hottest time of the day and it's only 30C in Rayong, with showers almost daily for the past week.

I stretch my neck and say we're not going to have much of a hot season this year, with rain becoming more and more frequent as we get into April. An official early rainy season IMO. Pete

I post this as the skies are on fire with lightening at 0500 here in Rayong. Pete

Warning

- 14-15 March, over the North, Northeast, East and Central including Bangkok and vicinity

- 16-18 March, over the whole country

People should beware of this severe weather during the period. During 16-18 Mar, the wind-wave in Gulf of Thailand will strengthen. It is expected about 2 meters of wave high in the lower Gulf from Surat Thani southward, all ship should proceed with caution.
