Place free of soi dogs?
Place free of soi dogs?
Is there anywhere in Hua Hin/Cha-Am where I can take my dogs for a long walk without running into soi dogs? A park? A section of the beach? Mountains? Somewhere private that requires a fee? Anywhere! They love going for long walks but the soi dogs are driving me crazy! I've been out a couple of times with a stick in my hand, but it's not very relaxing to do it that way. Not for me and not for my dogs.
Please no comments on killing the soi dogs or something like that. I don't hate the poor things. It's not their fault that they've been dumped and had to grow up half-wild. I just want to find something that works for me and my dogs.

Re: Place free of soi dogs?
How about a few hours' drive around Hua Hin? Somewhere I can drive to and back within the day. Or is it possible to rent a place somewhere for a few days where I can get a huge yard/garden/open space for my dogs to play in? Like going on a vacation (except that a hotel would be a bad choice in this case, because I can't take the dogs for walks anyway!).
Re: Place free of soi dogs?
What about Cha Am country park? I've never tried to walk a dog in it but I believe that others do.
Re: Place free of soi dogs?
I would try the golf courses. All should have a cart path around the entire place and most are aggressive in keeping local dogs out. If you put them on a lead, bring a pooper scooper and keep them off of sensitive places like greens etc., you may be able to convince them to let you do it in slow times, like early evening. You may have to 'tip' someone to grease the wheels. No harm in trying. Pete

Only in your dreams, fairy tales, myths or expensive golf courses.

There are places on the stretches of beach south of Khao Khalok that are free of just about everything apart from sand and sea if you want to go that far.
Just pick a bit of beach away from the small fishing communities and you can have a kilometre or two to yourself.

Re: Place free of soi dogs?
There are some stretches of HH beach that are "wild", but they're just the gaps between big buildings and they're getting narrower all the time.
Most beach places seem to have their own guard dogs, so I doubt another smell will make them tame.

Sea pine gardens charges 20 baht. My neighbour used to take his dogs there. There is a big area between the Palau road and soi 88 that has very few if you park in the right place and walk round the lakes up to the quartz quarry. There is also a reservoir area if you turn left after Orchid palm homes. We go dirtbiking in both areas and rarely see dogs as there is no nearby food source.

Yes, Sea Pines Gardens military reserve mentioned above. I take my neighbor's dog to walk there on the beach when he is out of town and have never seen another dog (and very few people) on the southerly stretch of beach that only has military officer villa housing. Is there anywhere in Hua Hin/Cha-Am where I can take my dogs for a long walk without running into soi dogs? To get there go south out of Hua Hin and turn into the military preserve (I think the signs say Suan Song) at the southern edge of Takiab. There is a PTT petrol station and a military gate guard there (he will just salute, then wave you through). Go past the train tracks and turn right, then proceed to just past the big 4 or 5 story hotel. Just past the hotel bordering it's southern edge turn left and watch for a big dirt parking area on your right. Park and go through the pine forest to the beach and head right (or south) with your dog for miles of empty beach all the way to Kao Tao. I have never been charged the 20 baht mentioned above.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Thank you for all the great suggestions. Golf courses are a great idea --Never thought about it before. And Sea Pines sounds great too. I'll give that a try first and see if it works for us.

I go running in that area daily and don't have much of a problem with dogs. There are a few but they don't come after me any more.
