These things seem to be getting very popular. There's been one far south of Pattaya for a few years now and it's always jammed with tour buses. Some Thai arts & crafts and Otop items, but mostly tourist souvenirs. Food is Thai fast food type. Water tends to get very murky looking as well. I hope the Hua Hin developers have visited and learned from their design mistakes. Pete

The developers were in the Market Village over the xmas period, selling shop space. Think 400,000 a year was quoted......for a 3 year contract......Naturally, I pulled the better half away before ideas started to develop

Could have the potential for lots of foot passengers, the one in Pattaya was packed when I visited it last year....

will be good for hua hin, however not sure how busy it will be in the low season.. 400,000 per year seems expensive did you see what size the area was for the shops??

No, I managed to pull the wife away before getting in details. Frightens the life out of me why the wife starts thinking of business ideas :duck: I've seen too many business start and close down in Hua Hin... Even some of the global brands with money have failed in Hua Hin.....

Yeah, basically USD 1,000.00 per month at mid-2010 exchange rates. Snake oil guys trying out the market no doubt. I didn't count all the stalls on the plan, but there appears to be a lot. MwD could well be right in that they're going after housewives with visions of riches by being 'first' in. I can't see a wise Bangkok family coming down and scooping up a hand full of stalls unless they have something really special to offer. Stay tuned, I bet the next time they're back at MV, the price is cut by a third or half. Also, maybe they need funds for construction and the deal is payment in advance?....beware. Pete

Even at half price, it would be better to stuff the money down the loo. :duck:
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Hi three Y'all Howse doin overthere in the LOS

I've been looking @ them plans and stuff of both Floatin Markets & hafta say that the difference of Pattaya Floatin Market & Hua Hin ones is that in Pattaya Is that they divided each section up into them regions of Thailand you know what I'm saying? You can walk around that place & get literally
Plus they have event stages where on certain hours perform Thai cultural. things there & that's what keep them hooked! Plus they have local handicrafts men showing of their products there for them Tourists to purchase. MwD and Pete you are right the waters there are pretty murky but hey they sure have hired some real good Boat Noodles! I've eaten 4 Bowls of that Thai-Soul-Food over there @ Floatin Market in Patts. One thing Floatin Market in HH must have is one or 2 bad arse tastin Boat Noodle ships. I'd say it's a necessity for a floatin Market Yo!
I don't know if 40 Car Parking & 27 Bus Parking Slots would be enough Already @ Pattaya Floating Market Busess with Tourrits had to Park outside with rows up to 15 busses behind each other.
Let's wait'n see till this project gets off the start in Hua Hin and as they go along they will develop business even more!!!!

Goodday from L. A.

Considering they just broke ground digging up the canals as discribed by the our Man usual suspect. I think it would take a while till their finished. When they are real fast I suggest their open to the public by next high season (third or fourth quarter of 2011) if their not fast than they'll open by April 2012! Just in time of Thai new year.

Of course it won't! I've never seen anything yet in Thailand where the builders planned for adequate parking. Look at the garage of Market Village on weekends or even most weekdays from mid afternoon onward... totally full with cars being parked in neutral so they can be pushed around and people circling the lot looking for a space. I'm sure the new mall at the old Saturkarn square location will be the same or worse. If Hua Hin continues to grow, they need to take a few of the empty spaces left downtown and build 8 or 10 story parking garages, and I believe at as little as 20 baht per day (I'd pay 20 baht per hour for a convenient and secure space!) one would make good money doing that, but nobody ever thinks about that here. That's the main reason I only leave the house before noon. After that the traffic and trying to find parking is just too stressful and I retired to get away from stress!

Thais are so eager to use every square meter of space available for retail sales that they don't seem to understand that they would bring in more business by giving better access via parking. Look at the sidewalks for God's sake. You can't even walk here due to the retail stalls, food carts, motorbike taxis, and shops and restaurants spilling over taking up sidewalk space. It is even difficult to walk inside most of the markets (especially pushing a shopping cart) because they make the aisles too narrow to use as much space for stock as possible. God help any poor handicapped people trying to get around this town in a wheelchair. I've actually seen a few going down Phetkasem road in traffic because they can't use the sidewalk! :banghead:

Anyhow enough of my  . It's just that with the winter weather a bit cooler, and me having to have something to bitch about, the parking is the next thing that irritates me the most here. :D :D :D

This morning we got a flyer sticking out at our yardgate promoting the new arrival of the Hua Hin floating market. It says it opens on 5th of June 2011.

Now that we have Plearn Wan and Cicada Market this might well develop to another fancy excursion hightlight for travel happy young Bangkokians having nothing else on their mind as taking comical pictures from each other of how they walk, how they pose, how they drink and how the display V-shaped fingers. And oh yes, it is sure so very hard to find a place like this around Bangkok! Hello Tesaban Hua Hin, please more of these not-to-miss pleasure spots!!!

Anyway, I will go and have a closer look to the site these days.

That does seems way too expensive to be viable, every single day needing a 1,000 Baht of sales profits just to break even!! Re: the space... I can't see how they could accurately demarc everyone's space allocation, maybe they use a system of ropes and buoy markers firmly restrained in place with weights. Won't they all just be allowed to float freely around the place!?

Here's a artists impression from the website link c.g posted.....
