Have any of you tried 42below vodka from NZ? It is very smooth and I have never had a hangover with it the next morning. Any chance I might find it in Tesco in MV? :o

I am also hoping to look for Martini & Rossi's Asti Spumante - a fruity sparkling wine from Italy. Great with desserts. Sweet and delicate flavours. :naughty:

Any specialty liquor store recommendations are very much appreciated! *hic*

Definitely Smirnoff Black vodka - haven't been able to afford it for many years though!

Gin - I always used to think Gordons was fine, but Bombay, which used to be cheaper in Thailand (at least from the supplier) is pretty good too.

And lets not forget good old Tequila. One tequila two tequila three tequila floor. Personally I prefer Sambucca.

Me too, preferably poured into a real good espresso after a meal. It's amazing how many of those Sambucca shots you can get into a small cup of espresso! 8) Pete

I've not tried Sambucca in coffee but will bear it in mind! Usually in the UK it's served up with the flaming coffee bean on top.
What really bugs me is asking in restaurants for a Russian coffee and the waiter looks blank - well blanker than they usually do

Tony Soprano will be proud of you. They only drink it that way as a tradition in Italian restaurants in Elizabeth and Newark, New Jersey from what I've seen. Used to work in those neighborhoods long ago where I learned it and every restaurant elsewhere when they've seen me pour one into the other has looked at me like I'm nuts. Pete

Is that the sambucca or the vodka Pete?

I used to use a hotel in Leeds (Yorkshire) regularly which was run by two lovely gay guys. Every night all the guests who were left standing in the bar were given a free sambucca or two with the bean.

The Russian coffee I first discovered many moons ago at a restaurant in York.

Yorkshire - more than just puddings

I don't know if there's a tequila made in Thailand but the regular brand is widely available there and does the job. What's it made from? God knows - but it's powerful. Thais drink it in the traditional way with salt and lime.

My Neighbour drinks some sort of rice whisky with pomegranate juice. Turns you into a bullet proof alien after a few glasses. Smirnoff black and Bombay win hands down IMHO on the vodka and gin stakes with Stolli coming a close second straight out of the freezer. Must not forget Absolut vanilla with ginger ale and Smirnoff blue with peach iced tea. Enjoy the festive season.

Guys, if you ever have a chance to try "Van Hoo" vodka from Belgium, don't pass on it! At the last(?) blind vodka tasting competition in France it beat out all the other vodkas. I got a bottle at a duty free shop in Hamburg, it is the smoothest vodka I ever tasted.) I don't know if it's available in Thailand or not.)

Mrs A. used to work for a Scandinavian hotel company, at various functions each manager, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish produced their own country`s aquavit which we were invited to judge as being the best. I never could remember the results the following morning.

If you mean the stuff with the plastic mexican hat on the top, I don't know what it's made from either but it smells very similar to the liquid de-icer used at airports!
