Policy on New Members

Post by Lev »

Due to the increase in spammers creating accounts on this forum solely with the purpose of promoting their own websites I have created a policy where any new member with a suspicious looking website (ie porn, sales, and regular spammy stuff) will be deleted. Also those with suspicious looking names (ie beginning with numbers or punctuation marks) will also be examined and deleted if deemed to be spammers.

If a genuine member is deleted by mistake please email me and the account will be re-activated.

I have deleted a few new accounts over the last couple of weeks due to suspicious looking names and links to suspicious websites in their profile.

Please email or PM me if I have deleted a genuine account by mistake.

What is it with Russians?

Any user registering with an email or website with the .ru suffix will also be deleted. We do not tolerate spammers on this forum.

.ru email accounts are banned. Do not register with a .ru email account.

Two more recently registered members have been deleted for using banned email accounts and websites in their profile.

If this was a genuine mistake we apologise but you'll have to re-register WITHOUT using emails with .ru extensions.

I might be a bit confused, but isn't the .ru extension from any web account created in Russia? I would hate to think that you are deleting an entire nation's posts.

That is correct but you also fail to realise that the majority of spammers we get on this website are also russian.

How many russians do you know in Hua Hin? Of the 80 or so accounts created with .ru addresses not one of them have been genuine.

As the guy from .ru area I know this problem like no other :) I have phpBB forum at one of my websites in .ru domain and I should tell you that problem was completely solved when my programmer updated verification code for new users registrations. As a rule, spam submissions are automated and all you need to avoid them is to update protection time of the time. I am not a technical guru but I can ask my programmer for details if you need.

Thanks for the offer however its not necessary, our programmers recoded the software to eliminate spambots and URL posting until members have posted ten times and been active for over seven days.

This eliminated spam overnight.
