I know that there's a very good argument to find a soi dog puppy if you're in the market for a pet. Can't argue that, and it's correct on many counts.
For those looking for a pure bred dog though, has anyone noticed any improvement at all in the quality and care of the animals that are being sold by pet shops? In the past the health of many of those puppies was questionable as bred and born on puppy farms under suspect conditions.
It's silly to talk about regulation here, but seeing how Thais are now embracing the concept of having a pet dog more and more as the years go by, I'm thinking they're policing the puppy farms and demanding better care and quality of the animals. Perhaps an idle thought but interested if indeed any positive change has been noticed. Pete

There's quite a few over here in Chonburi, Pattaya, Rayong. They're not the traditional 'doggy in the window' type places but resemble a kennel with a billboard outside offering boarding, grooming and pet sales. I've seen that each usually specializes in only one or two breeds, three at the most. Pete

...and PS to the above. We've stopped and asked as many puppies and no adult dogs of the same breeds present. The answer was they come from up-country.
Over here at the moment golden retrievers and Siberian huskies seem to be the most popular of the big dogs and shih zu and lhasa apso for the small breeds. Pete
