Can you see a cataract in a mirror as it's developing? Does vision become blurred? Or, is the only way to tell through an eye exam? Pete

Some might scoff Pete, but a good preventative measure for eye problems is to take Bilberry extract 2-3 times a day. Increases blood flow and circulation everywhere in the body, good for people with varicose veins, eye disorders, good anti-oxidant too along with a few other benefits. There are many stories of British and American fighter pilots eating bilberry jam before night missions as it's also claimed to increase night sight abilities.

Of course, like many herbal supplements, not recommended with certain medicines like Warfarin etc so if on medication then check with a Doc, if not then worth a look at.

Ha ha, nah man, it's too late for you, you should have started 40 years ago, veg isn't as nutrient rich as it used to be, still though, carrots will give you beta carotene.

You can`t see it in the mirror but your vision looks like you`re looking through smudged glasses.

If you can see it, it is probably a Pterygium (pronounced "tur-RIDGE-ium").

:offtopic: Back to the original question:

I'm interested in opinions of any recent procedures of this type by the good doctor as well because I have a cataract in one eye.

Don't know if things have changed much since my op 18 months ago

Had a check here in HH. Then went for another check to Bumrungrad. Finally had the op on both eyes at the specialist place in BK (forget the name). Cant complain

Search for original posts and you'll get the picture (pun intended)

I went to Dr. Pairat's surgery and to Bumrungrad and they wanted me to come in for the op straightaway - no problem they said. Just come in and bring your wallet!!

Based on somebody else's advice, I then went to the Rutnin Eye Hospital in Bangkok, where the consultant was a lady professor.
Despite being a private hospital, she talked me out of having the op and advised me to wait another 6 months or so for the results of tests on new types of lens implants that could be mores suitable.
She pointed out that she herself hadn't had the op yet for the same reason.

I would advise anyone thinking of taking this step to go for a consultation at Rutnin first.

Barry

That is precisely what I did and the Rutnin are ace. They give good advice, perform a very clinical operation, give you options regarding new lenses and back it all up with a comprehensive series of check ups for a year extendable for many years for a paltry sum.

Most of their clientele fly in from overseas. The rest are up market Thais and I believe royalty

Had both my eyes lazered for 40,000 for each eye and can now see Pattaya from the beach in Hua Hin

There is no bullsh1t. They analyse your problem and give you sound advice with options and a clear explanation of what they can and can't do

My options were to forget the operation and upgrade glasses on a 6 monthly basis or go for the op.

All their consultants have been trained overseas and all their equipment is top of the range stuff from Germany, Japan and the States
