Good, let them trash their own cities instead of the capital. Maybe a North/South divide as in Korea will be the solution.

Here is the link for SM's statement:

It is likely they'll be held on one of the large military bases around here.

Curfew: 8pm to 6am.

Curfew in the capital, provinces

* Published: 19/05/2010 at 04:19 PM
* Online news: Breakingnews Bangkok Post

The Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) has announced curfew in Bangkok, nearby cities and provinces in the North and Northeast earlier placed under emergency law, televisions reported on Wednesday afternoon.

Under the declared curfew, the people in restricted provinces are not allowed to leave their homes from 8pm today to 6am on Thursday.

The state authorities are allowed to perform duty in the restricted areas to help restore peace and order.

The curfew order immediately takes effect.

The CRES order was signed by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva late this afternoon.

The red-shirt leaders were taken to be detained at the Border Patrol Police base in Hua Hin.
Narasuan Camp I believe, although technically it's in Cha Am.

I know it won't happen but these three could/should fall under the armed rebellion/high treason section really.

Tbh I'm glad I left Thailand now. That said, I have friends in Bangkok who are absolutely terrified and really worried. One is at a hospital as her dad's had a heart attack and reds aren't far away, burning everything they can find. The obvious worry with their history of hospital invasions is whether they're going to cause problems there. It's a horrific mess of a situation and to be honest one that I don't see a solution to, but all should be concerned at the reds ripping the heart out of the economic powerhouse that drives much of Thailand's economy.

I hate to keep harping on but I cannot believe Dan Rivers admitted the Reds had M79s and were shooting back:

Looks like some of the western journo's have been hurt/killed by Reds firing M79's.

There is a good summary in today's ATol highlighting the splits in the leadership of the UDD:

http://atimes.com/atimes/Southeast_Asia/LE20Ae01.html

With the core leaders now incarcerated it is highly likely that Thaksin will start recruiting (read: paying) new leaders in the Northeast to wage his civil war up there. Thankfully we should be ok here for two reasons; this part of the country and further south is geographically easier to secure and there is very little support for the UDD south of Bangkok.

Channel 3 appears to be off air, others are playing propaganda at the moment. Hmmmmm.....what's going on? Or are they just trying to control the spread of info to the provinces?

CRES announced that all TV stations will soon broadcast a "special programme".

Protesters set TV station ablaze

BANGKOK - THAI anti-government protesters have set the offices of TV station Channel 3 on fire, trapping 100 staff in the building, a fire department official said on Wednesday.

Military officials told AFP they had sent a helicopter to begin an airlift and were looking at the building plans to see where they could land the chopper.

'The building was attacked by the protesters and when we dispatched a fire truck it was also attacked. Now they have withdrawn so we have sent a fire truck again,' a spokesman for the Bangkok fire department told AFP.

Channel 3 managers said the staff were trapped above a fire blazing on the sixth floor of the building, which is located on a main thoroughfare that leads to the Red Shirts' protest camp, which was stormed by troops earlier on Wednesday.

'We are in a crisis situation now. Some 100 of our staff are trapped inside, the fire has engulfed the sixth floor,' Channel 3 news editor Samran Chatto told AFP. -- AFP

Several Helicopters flying around away from the protest area. Started about 17-00 hrs. At first it appeared that there were several of them heading out in a Southwesterly direction, and I thought maybe they were providing air cover and / or transporting the arrested leaders South. But it now appears that they are more than likely just patrolling around watching out for any new flareups away from the main area, as they are passing over regularly. They were keeping relatively high altitude, probably around 2000 / 2500 ft. It is now getting dark, and they appear to have stopped.

Also starting to become overcast, so maybe get a thunder storm, which would help dampen down the fires. Hard to tell just what is cloud and what is smoke. Very little traffic around my area, and all the small shops have closed.
