No! A Dog would struggle to use a gun.
(CBS) A hunter is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after being shot by his dog on Saturday.

The Merced County Sheriff's Department said the 53-year-old man was hunting with a partner off Highway 152 near Los Banos when he set down his shotgun to retrieve his decoy ducks.

The shotgun was loaded but the safety was on, according to authorities.

The victim was about 15 yards away, retrieving his decoys, when his female black Labrador retriever stepped on the gun.

Authorities said the dog disengaged the safety and hit the trigger at the same time, firing a shell with #2 shot. The man was struck in on the left side of his upper back.

The man was treated and released at the hospital the same day.

I find it hard to understand why in LOS that so many people mistreat animals (cats/dogs etc) when professing adherence to a philosophy of tolerance and kindness. I am amused when I see the pampered critters at the animal salon at the basement of Market Village and shocked when I walk outside to see the mangy, starving, mite infested creatures on the main drag and in the sois. It seems such a contradiction.

It comes into some perspective when you are told that many mothers in LOS leave their kids with their upcountry grandparents and other relatives and may not see them from 1 year to the next and may be a willing party to their employment in dubious areas!

PS Steve G I reckon it was Daffy getting his revenge!

Having stuck my chin out to allow the dog lovers to demonstrate their caring concern, which I applaud. I should provide a finish to this story.

Since creating this post, I've learned that dropping dogs off miles away is a fairly common strategy. The returnee dog was still obviously at risk from poisoners and shooters so we were back to square one.

For the 'chuckle brothers' and other happy campers still nursing simmering resentment, we solved the problem finally by putting the dog in a weighted sack and drowning it in the nearby lake.

For everyone else, the dog is playing happily in the back garden and has not chased a motosi since his ordeal. Smart dog. Hopefully, happy ending.

At least for him. :thumb:

Mr plum
Pleased to see the happy ending, well done. One more thing that can cause problems is if they have not been neutered. If the animal has not been done, it is advisable to get it done. Hopefully you will have no more problems.
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.

Well Mr P :)

It seems that things have worked out well, in part at least.

Like most soi dogs, maybe the "returnee dog" will eat breakfast and lunch at another address and that will mean only one extra for dinner at your house. :thumb:

I expect the other dog is doing it's best, trying for adoption in another area but don't be surprised if in months to come, he doesn't come a calling again.

I prefer cats but wish you good luck with the new addition to your family.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Richard, before having a snide poke at me, now I'm safely out of the way & you think I'll never appear again, why not tell the whole story? Your friend never contacted us, did he? I have no recollection of it & at 40, I'm not quite senile, yet. We're not prescient, sweetie. We can't help if we're not contacted.

Caller, thanks for adding Verity's details.

Lindosfan, hope you're doing well. And the lovely Mrs Lindos. I taught you well, Glasshopper... :D Love ya both

VS, hope you & hubby are well.

Mr Plum, glad it all worked out.

Nevets - lovely dog, sweetie
