Booking a hotel in Bangkok

Post by Vital Spark »

Mr.VS and I needed a hotel in Bangkok around the Silom area - not our usual haunt, so we were shooting in the dark.

We found this great site 'Asia Reservations' which was not only the cheapest, but the easiest one to deal with. There's a chap called Rob who seems to run it and who couldn't have been more helpful and efficient. Instant replies to our emails (a rarity in Thailand) and a friendly manner.

I know there are oodles of sites on the web to book hotels in Bangkok, but this one is much more user friendly than others we've tried to use.

The last two times I booked with www.agoda.com. They have a great choice and many reviews and a best price guarantee.

I compared my last reservation at Century Park Hotel and found, that Asia reservations is about 6% cheaper for the same period. But the best price guarantee is only valid, if you claim a cheaper price within 48 hours of your booking. So its too late for me to get money back.

The HHAD affiliate hotel booking website also has a wide selection of Bangkok hotels and competitive rates.

Hi VS, if you are looking for a couple of nights(or more) in april the Dusit Thani have a good offer of 2250++ inc breakfast, for a standard king room.
Easy access for silom, sky train etc and a nice hotel with a very good breakfast.

Book direct and pay when leaving, not upfront.

Thanks for that Sam, but it's waaay out of our price bracket. Don't forget I'm married to a Scot, and we (he) tend to go for the sub 1,000 baht bracket.

Blowing a third of a month's salary on three nights in Bangkok would put Mr.VS's blood pressure up through the roof, then he'd get gout, then he'd be grumpy....

We're actually meeting up with his sister who's staying at the Peninsula Hotel - it looks gobsmacking. We're having a meal there on Saturday night - I think (hope) that she's paying. :D

Mines only half scot, so I just about get away with it.

Not been in the Pen but it does look interesting.

Lek seafood sounds good and a lot less expensive, more authentic if you want to return the favour for a meal and easy access from the skytrain.

Hope you have a good time wherever you stay.

I always use sawadee (.com). Always cheapest, very fast secure and reliable

We used Agoda on our xmas trip and booked in at Bossotel, a short walk from the foot of Silom. Nice small pool, excellent and large buffet brekkie incl. with omelets to order, fresh fruit, cereals, good coffee etc.
Its a small hotel on the same street as the Shangri-La.
Double was about 1800 baht.

www.siam-hotels.net and www.sawadee.com have the same booking machine. Same hotel list, same prices and same reviews.

Yes, but by booking through siam-hotels.net you're helping HHAD as we get a little commission, by going to sawadee.com you're helping them as they get it!

Funny. Guess that that was implied in your first post for those with the power of inference. Ha ha.

I've been using Agoda for years with no complaints except that you don't get the final price with Vat until you are near the end of the booking procedure. IMO they are the cheapest and have the most hotel info on their website.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Fair dues, Lev. Next time we'll have a look at www.siam-hotels.net as well. Efficiency and a good deal is all we need, and if it helps HHAD in the bargain, then it's a win-win situation.

Just got back from our trip to BKK staying at Elegance Suites on North Sathorn Road. What a bargain, and what an amazing little hotel. We actually had a 'suite' - kitchen sink with kettle (so we could make our own coffee, which is always nice), fully filled large fridge with enough room for a bottle or three of beer Chang bought from 7/11, a living room with a sofa and coffee table, separate bedroom with sliding doors - and all for the bargain price of less than 1,200 baht a night.
The room didn't have a view or balcony, but that wasn't on our tick list. It had a swimming pool and bar on the roof, and the buffet breakfast (included in the price) was just amazing - all the usual stuff plus dim sum, Indian food and salads.
It's within walking distance from the BTS station at the Taksin Bridge, so getting to other parts of Bangkok was quick and easy.
It's a gem of a place for the money...

Soi Ngam Dhupli has lots of good alternatives to stay at for under 1000 baht. One in particular is the Penguin guest house which has a few suite type rooms with internet for 900 Baht. There is also new hotel across from the Malaysia Hotel that is 1000 Baht. Also plenty of guest houses in the 350-500 Baht range.
