You wake up in the morning and realize that you have nowhere to go and all day to get there. - what more could you want.

I take it you're single

With a wife and two little ones, I wake up and prepare myself for battle knowing I have so much to do, and not enough time to do it all

I can assure you OP, at the end of your month here, it will feel as though you were only here for a few days. The worst part of any visit to Thailand, is when you pass through immigration on your way back home. You'll soon see why so many of us have ended up staying and HH is a great little town.

Yeah, that's great for a one month holiday but it's getting a little old after five years. I just spent seven days without going outside the house because there was no reason to! Not exactly the exciting retirement I had planned...

You need a hobby young man...
Mrs Cornhole and I used to get up early and potter about cleaning the house etc... and then head down to Haad sai noi beach via the paper shop where I would buy a Bangkok post and she would buy some Thai girlie magazines. (no not the type your all thinking about) We would always try and explore on the way as I always carry my camera (hobby alert) with me. We would spend a few hours on the beach doing crosswords (hobby alert) and the like. Then head home via Tescos where we would buy a roast chicken and a big bag of salad. Once home we would sit in the garden and eat our acquired foul.

I would then usually go on the computer and she would have a nap. At about 7:00 we would shower and head off to Lek Leks for a bite to eat, pop into the Phoenix bar on the way home for a few red wines and were usually in bed around 11:00.

I used to have my radio show 3 nights a week (hobby alert) and used to work in Dawns dog shop on Sunday afternoons.

There was also the cycles (hobby alert) I used to go on with a few fellow ferrangs.

Oh how I am missing it all...

Just some suggestions for you to muse over...

I think RC is right. Hobbies, or a hobby at least, is necessary to keep me off the beer big time.
I'm generally up early - 6am latest. I'll mess about on the computer and cook myself breakfast and that'll keep me occupied until about 8-9am. Then, like today, get a songtaew into town and walk the beach to Khao Takiab. Have a beer at the end and songtaew back home. Have some lunch and quite often retire to the aircon bedroom, watch a movie and fall asleep for an hour or so.
3pm ish get up, sit in the "garden" and read. Dinner about 7pm and I'm asleep again by 10pm.
On days I play golf, the routine is fairly similar except I'll be there from 11am to 6pm at weekends and 9-11.30am on week days.
There's also swimming. I used to go to Sport Villa in the mornings and be back for lunch.
Anything that keeps me occupied in the mornings is important for me. As long as I've done something, the rest of the day can slip away into Chang heaven

Yeah, agree there aswell. Hobbies/pastimes/interests are a must here, also finding a routine is a good idea, as it's easy to fall into the abyss of booze and indulgence without them or if you have too much time on your hands.

OK, I work here, so it's not much of a problem most of the time but at the moment it's the long holiday for universities. For the 3 months that there is a holiday my beer intake has increased noticably as I have little to do and am out of my normal routine. It's great for me because I know it will end and I'll be back to work at a certain point but if I was retired then it would be way more dangerous. I'll break up the holiday with some travel later this month.

It's just too easy to do the indulgent pastimes(beer/restaurants/women/bars etc) as they are all so readily available. I have seen so many blokes that have gone down the drain like this.

BTW Randy, if that was your routine then it sounds like a decent day 8) . The great escape from the UK beckons, I reckon!

I spent about a month and a half at one time in HH.

Just keep occupied and don't let the demon drink fck you over or the little brain downstairs bleed you dry either :)

OK, I'm convinced!

Post by CanadianGuy »

Alright, I am more than convinced that I will not die from boredom in HH. I am also convinced that I will have a blast! I greatly enjoyed reading about all of the positive experiences and am very glad that I opted to spend the majority of the next trip in HH, instead of my usual destinations of Bkk and Patts.

I must say, if the tone, manner of exchange and communication style on this site is any indication, HH certainly is a different world than Pattaya. It is a pleasure to be part of a forum that is not populated by individuals that focus on bickering, flaming and proving they can piss further than everyone else. A very different atmosphere than that found on the Pattaya forums.

Thanks again!

Just arrived

Hi all,

Thanks again for all the helpful insight.

I just rolled into town last night after quite an adventure getting from Pattaya to Hua Hin. I would not recommend to anyone to take the bus from the Southern bus station in Bangkok. It takes forever, stopping constantly along the way to pick-up and drop-off passengers, and the bus itself has seen far better days.

Now it is time to put all that great insight to use. First up, will hit the beach on this hot and sunny day and consume my share of beers.

Cheers!
