Can anyone tell me please, the best place to go in Hua Hin, or elsewhere for competetive health insurance.

If you need someplace to start, BUPA have an office in Hua Hin. Just past Soi 6 on Petchkasem Rd, towards Cha Am.

The problem with the Thai health insurances is, that all have some limit on their payments, dependant on how much premium you pay. Some insurances even throw you out when you reach 70 and then no one will take you any more.
I have a german insurance which pays unlimited private treatment and private hospitals (250 EUR/year you have to pay yourself), but I pay 180 EUR per month (below 65 you pay only 120 EUR/month). Thai insurances will be cheaper, but only if your payment limit is not very high.

BUPA is ok but they only offer yearly contracts means that if you get too expensive for them they might not renew your contract.
The Thai insurances are good. You can take AACP, AIA, Thai Life. They all have offices and agents you can go to. The thing is that you have to make a small life insurance. They always want to sell you a big life insurance but ask them for the minimum premier of the life insurance because at 57 you surely don't want to make a life insurance. They offer different ones. For example 84/84. Means you are insured until you are 84 and have to pay the premier until you are 84. The older the better. In case 84/84 you will have to pay a long time and therefore the premier will be low. But this makes sure that you are covered until you are 84 years old. And noone can throw you out until you are 84.
I asked about your age because they only insure people younger then 60.
You will also have to make a health check to see your risk. Do this health check in Phetburi at Petcharat hospital. If you do it in San Paolo crazy things can come out. Horrible Hospital by the way.
You get what you pay for. The higher the coverage the higher the ammount they pay for you at the hospital.
There are several packages you can buy. Just check out how much the expensive hospitals cost like Bungrungrad in Bkk. It's not that expensive and you could think of leaving paying for OPD because the doctors you go might see are cheap. Only in case of a serious sickness you really need one and that's why i would recommend not to play cheap charly with your hospital coverage.
In case you leave the OPD you have to know that if you go to the hospital then you will have to stay there a certain time...i think it is 6 hours, to get them to take over your costs.
A really good health insurance will cost you between 30000 and 60000 baht a year.
Hope this helps
Wow....i never wrote that much in here!!!!!

I know how you feel I looked around a fair bit before I decided to pay extra to have my company policy upgraded to an international one.
If its amy consulation from what the guys at work tell me Americans and Candians can be paying way more than that for personal cover even at much lower ages.

Too expensive? I used to pay arround 400 Euros a month. 30000 Baht is arround 55 Euros. 60000 if someone can calculate, will be 110 a month. Tell me one developed country where you are 57 years old and get a proper health insurance between 55 and 110 Euros a month.
At least everyone should have a accident insurance. 1200 - 2000 baht a year.
Too expensive too?

Before I got my international policy sorted out my Thai wife (34 but dont tell her I told you) took out accident insurance. Cost was 3000B (£60 give or take) per year, the cover is only up to 70,000B but can be increased as the premium increases, pretty flexible. Its with Allianz, it gave me a bit of peice of mind as I work away month and month..

30000 Baht : 47 = 638,29 Euro/year : 12 = 53,19 Euro per month
so far for the math's lesson

Accident insurance is 1200 - 2000 Baht/year : 12 = 100 - 166,66 Baht/month

Still missing something?

do I have this right? If I go to Thai Life can I get a life policy combined with health insurance? If BUPA only has annual policies, who has policies that can be rolled over each year?

I cannot tell you where to get the best health insurance deal in Thailand as mine is from BUPA in the UK. :( and is very costly.

However I can tell you that you should declare every and I mean EVERY illness that you have ever suffered from, if you don't and end up in hospital in Thailand, you may well find that the insurance company refuse to pay.
Leave nothing out and then when the company gives you cover they cannot refuse to pay.
A couple of my friends have been refused payment, after they were admitted to hospital in Thailand when the insurance company discovered minor past health problems that had no connection to the medical emergency they were in hospital for.

Beware the small print.

Good Luck :thumb:
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
